Hawthorn were open to trading Mitchell last season and that desire has seemingly only strengthened now after they reduced his midfield minutes this year. They also want his 2023 $800,000 salary off their books.
We currently hold pick 41 (early 3rd) and potentially could gain some added currency to push that pick inside the second round if we take Fiorini and his salary off the hands of Gold Coast.
Hopefully that proves enough for a player in Mitchell that Hawthorn appears to have fallen out of love with.
Personally I don’t think Johnson gets a gig in our best 22 next year. McStay comes in, Hill in for WHE. Henry will battle to get into the 22.
If we turned Henry into Mitchell I would be more than happy with that for shorter term tilts at a flag.
The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.
If a deal for Henry doesn't get done and he chooses to take his chances in the draft I'd support the club redrafting him at 16 or before Geelong in the PSD.
Unlike a prospect taken at pick 16 whose worth remains unknown we know Henry already has the ability to influence matches at AFL level and his potential is clear.
We also know what his training standards are and if he looks to sook it up, not be professional, we can simply refer him to the AFL and they can assess whether he's fulfilling his contract obligations and threaten him with deregistration if he isn't.
Given we're constantly told Geelong don't overpay it's players it's hard to imagine Henry could nominate terms we weren't able or prepared to match.
Stand firm and don't accept pick 25 Graham. We have options!
There are two types of players. Those who play for a club because they want to, and those who only play for the club because they have to. Ollie is the latter, see ya later.

Yeah I would be happy with the taste in Port Adelaide's mouth when they refused to trade Nick Stevens and let him walk. They won the Premiership the next year. Seems like a sweet taste to me...

If I were the Pies, I would be letting Henry know that Geelong don't rate you enough for a first rounder- stay with the Magpies.
We should offer to drive Henry down the freeway to Geelong for 2 days after each match he plays so he could have his 'family time'...
Geelong are trying to bend us over- if we send this kid to the PSD, he will probably end up in Western Australia...
With all due respect Mr.Lad, the only people sending this kid into the draft will be himself and his manager.
It's not like he's playing for the bottom four club who first drafted him; the wheel has turned, he helped rotate it several times - he is required and should stay.
He may have gotten called up for a shock GF appearance, had that PF gone for a minute longer.... sadly, we'll never know....
I don't think he will get any greasys from anybody at club, even if he only signs on for another 12 months or so; i'm sure everybody now understands his situation.
Agree totally Piedsy.
And Geelong clearly don't value him that much. They think he is just a loose bit of shrapnel that they can casually pick up off the pavement.
Nah, to us he is not loose shrapnel, but a required player.
From memory we selected Henry at pick 14 and since then we have invested 2 yrs of training and development into him. He has demonstrated that he is a genuine talent and looks about to become a regular terrific marking forward. Objectively, then, he should be worth more than the pick 14 we selected him at 2 yrs ago. He should be regarded as a top 10 pick now.
We should let it be known that the Cats simply don't value him all that much.
I see the club has offered Henry a one year extension through to the end of next season when he can then make his mind up what he wants to do. He rejected that. I see no reason to entertain Geelong's number 25 pick for him. We owe Geelong no favours. If AFL rules can be bent so Geelong gives up their future first round draft pick for him, I would accept that. Otherwise Collingwood, hold fast and don't give in. The worst is he goes into the preseason draft where he certainly won't be getting to Geelong.
