The way it's going Henry and Dunkley staying with their clubs is getting more and more likely. I can't see the Cats giving the Pies what they want. In the end, his manager will say you are better off staying with the Pies as you could end up anywhere but Geelong.Presti35 wrote:If the trade falls on its arse, Henry will resign with Collingwood. 2 years. I guess we can come back next year and try again.
I dont think he'll go into the PSD. It's either traded to Geelong or re-signing with Collingwood for a couple seasons.
I'm hoping to see other deals completed first, before we even entertain this one.
I guess the big one is, can Oli Henry fall in love with Collingwood?

Exactly !!!!!! and when they cry because they say they want to use their newly acquired pick 7 on that local lad....well too bad....you can break that 7 up into 2 picks for helping get the Henry deal done.slangman wrote:Considering Geelong have the last pick in the PSD I can’t see us accepting a shitty deal for a kid who has immense talent. That would put Henry in a position where he would either re-sign with us or put himself in the PSD where he knows that the likelihood of him getting to the Cats would be close to zero.RudeBoy wrote:The bottom line is we screwed ourselves when we agreed to Grundy's exorbitant contract. We are now 'forced' to sell him for unders. It's our fault not his.
As for the Henry situation. Shit happens I'm afraid. Reckon we'll end up accepting a shitty deal from the Cats, rather than get nothing for him.
How many 19yo medium forwards in their second season can snap a goal from 40m on the boundary or kick four goals in two quarters in a match winning performance? Players with the talent of Henry are few and far between and I can’t see us giving him away for peanuts to the reigning premier.
The fact that he wants to play with his brother is and should be if no relevance to Collingwood.
Honestly who cares about you having it all your way...when youre toying with players lives there should be some attempt to help out the kid, although players should go where their employers tell them to go within reason.
I think that there has to be some sort of protective mechanism to help clubs protect their assets especially when the other club is throwing their toys out of the cot because they cant have their cake and eat it.
Far out a couple weeks ago they had no idea they were getting pick 7.
Didnt we used to have a fair trade arbitrator employed by the AFL to stop this sort of shite happening.
Cmon Geelong give us a fair trade for Henry, pick 30 something is an insult.

I said a few weeks back that I thought De Goey, Henry and Grundy will still be Pies in 2023.
De Goey has signed- tick.
Henry will stay and sign a two year deal sometime this week. This will be due to Geelong's unwillingness to pay what is a fair price for such a talented lad.
Whilst I get that he wants to 'go home', as one poster suggested the other day, the kid could get a place in Williamstown/Point Cook and be close enough to see his family frequently. How many 20 year olds have tea with their folks more than once or twice a week anyway???
I think Grundy will have a huge year in Black and White in 2023.
As a professional athlete, I am sure he will see our attempts to move him on as part of the changing landscape of the code.
I trust that he will fit into our starting 22 from Round one- the selection conundrum around Cameron, Cox and Grundy will be fascinating to watch.
I even have doubts that Luke Jackson will get to Fremantle- Melbourne can hardly set a high bar for Jackson's trade and then lowball the Pies on Grundy.

Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away...
Lad I think you may be off the mark here.
Grundy will not be at Collingwood next year, and I doubt Henry will be either. We’ll accept whatever is on offer as we get closer and closer to 7pm Wednesday.
I am hopefully we bring a couple more in however…. Frampton seems a given, but I’d also like Mitchell and / or Fiorini.

I reckon you’re right. We lose Grundy and Henry and gain Frampton, Mitchell and Fiorini. Didn’t realize we could split Fiorini’s contract. 200k a season is reasonable. Hawthorn pays part of Mitchell’s contract for 2023. If we lose two and gain three it means one of Poulter or Madgen have to go. Not a bad outcome.
Unless the Jackson deal falls over, Grundy will go to Melbourne.
Henry is the one that the Pies don’t want to lose so I can’t see them agreeing to anything other than a fair trade. Henry imho will sign with Collingwood if a trade cannot be done instead of risking the uncertainty of the PSD.
Collingwood know this and that is why they won’t budge on what is fair for a player with some serious talent.

Agree that this is the most likely outcome. I cannot see us retaining Grundy and Henry at all. Hopefully those coming in will be better than the expectations of some Nicksters who don’t seem to rate them too highly.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:I reckon you’re right. I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm

I’d love to think you’re right. Henry maybe, but the Grundy one is purely about numbers. We need to get his salary (or most of it) off our books.warburton lad wrote:I said a few weeks back that I thought De Goey, Henry and Grundy will still be Pies in 2023.

No doubt re: the first part. No point having a 100+ kg lump getting close to $1m per year who can't time his leap at centre bounces. Our gain is hopefully Melbourne's loss.Jezza wrote:I think Grundy is gone. We clearly want him off the books.
Henry might stay if Geelong doesn't offer us something reasonable.
Maybe re: second part. I fear however, that Henry might sulk it up if things don't go his way. I feel that in his head, he's already gone.

Unfortunately, we're hamstrung on this one. Have to try and get as much as we can, possibly unders as I can't see any other scenario working for us. Keep him another year and we waste resources on someone whose heart and mind are elsewhere. Let him walk to the draft and trust me he will get to Geelong, just as Luke Ball got Collingwood. No other club will want to touch him and we'll end up with zilch. Let's hope we squeeze something more out of Geelong, it's unlikely but I don't fancy the other options
