We need to stick fat. Play Hardball Pies… for once.
Remember Melbourne just traded away their second ruck and Gawn doesn’t want to play the no1 ruck role anymore, Melbourne want Grundy as much as we want him gone.

I think they ARE desperate for him, as they know what he can become (and with Hawkins talking him up, and saying how great it would be if he were at Geelong etc.). They are just not showing any desperation, in the hope that we accept unders for him.
I find your lack of faith disturbing

Geelong have actively and deliberately traded out everything they had that would’ve been fair, trading out their F2 so they wouldn’t be allowed to trade their F1 was IMO the final straw, if we blink and take unders I will be absolutely disgusted in the club.

It wouldn't get us the desired 1st round selection and I'm not advocating for us to accept it but forcing Geelong to trade a player they reportedly hope to retain in Esava for another 2nd round selection on top of the two they've already used (plus some change) to gain pick 25 would provide a little bit of satisfaction.

As for the value of 33?

Well it would cover the cost of Tom Mitchell, be traded perhaps for a future 2nd round selection to restore the 2nd we used on Hill or bundled with other picks in an effort to move up the draft board.

Stuff Geelong. Give him a 2 year contract or send him to the PSD.

I love all the bravado on here, I really do but let’s all hope everyone still feels the same way when Henry is getting a kick for the Cats and those same people want the blood of the footy dept that let him go for nothing.
You don’t improve your list by walking decent players to the PSD. All you’re doing is completely pissing away your first pick in the 2020 draft. Imagine if we took that attitude to the trade period every second year. You reward the players who want to play for Collingwood and you get the best return you can for those who don’t.

If we let him go for nothing or for a sh&t pick it won’t matter if he becomes a star. It’s not bravado it’s wanting to see us not get screwed in the deal. He could be a Luke Ball or a Nick Davis but none of us has a crystal ball.

No, I think it's the other way around, and that's why we're putting pressure on Melbourne.

If we were so desperate, we'd take pick 27 and be done with it. Instead we're pushing for more, and it's not a lot more. Doesn't sound like desperation.

We have the cap space for our current trades. The main deal(s) at risk if we don't trade Grundy is Mitchell and/or Fiorini. Mitchell in particular is not essential, especially if we did keep Grundy.

I'd say it's almost certain the Grundy deal gets done, we're just making sure Melbourne knows that we are not desperate and if we absolutely have to, we'll walk away. Important to do that because the Grundy deal is seen as a "salary dump". Melbourne, on the other hand, have traded away their second ruck and could really do with that replacement. Gawn is definitely invested in it.
Well done boys!

If all they're offering is pick 25 (which is really pick 28), it's not a big deal.

You also ignore the possibility that Henry would re-sign. He's publicly come out for the Cats, they clearly made some kind of commitment to him. If they then can't make that happen, he may be seeing things a little differently. Cats have already prioritised Bruhn over him, never offered us 18, they are now prioritising a chance at getting Jhye Clark over him, they have also made moves that forbid them from trading their FR1 pick. Whereas we have stuck by our request for an FRP and that Henry is a required player.

Sorry, but the Premier doesn't get to target promising players from other clubs and deal for under value. For a club like Geelong draft picks should not be like gold, they need to offer fair value. Happy for us to reject pick 28 if that's all that's being offered.

Just to clarify, I didn’t forget he could re- sign, I just didn’t make it part of the post. We either keep the asset or we trade the asset but my point is, there is no value to the football club if we let him walk to the PSD. Twelve months ago we got unders for Lipinski and understandably there was little sympathy for the Dogs in all that. Thats the way of footy trading these days, you win some, you lose some but you don’t set out to lose it all, while there is still a benefit to be gained in between.
Personally, I don’t think we will accept 25 and I’m not sure the Cats would offer any more, so then the liklihood would be Henry stays. Good result, albeit then we have a player who is potentially further disenchanted with his employer because they didn’t grant his trade wish and also player whose brother and parents will both still likely be in Geelong by the time his next contract comes around. In that situation, the club would have at least bought time to win him over.
