I agree.
He has made a confession before media cameras, a grand humiliation in itself. Does anyone have any doubt that Fly will ensure he feels the consequences of his actions? He will no doubt be required to make a statement to the team, will suffer the disapproval of his peers, and will be banned for the first two rounds. But I would not be enforcing any more than that. d He will have to fight his way back into the senior squad from the VFL, but if he does so within 3 or 4 weeks of the year, so be it.
I am sure that the process that Fly inflicts on him will be enough to dissuade him from a repetition.

Sack him! He knows the rules and broke them. He is a kid with potential. Send him back to Tasmania.
I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

If only the first goalkicker was as easy to pick

Hopefully it's just a kick up the arse, and he is wise enough to learn from it.

I am sure Fly said something like.. learn from it, or you will end up in the big heap of could have beens. You decide.

He has been banned from the practice games and for the first two rounds. Add to that the public humiliation and opprobium he is currently suffering, that is more than enough to deter him from making the same mistake.
This setback will challenge him: it will also test out his mettle. Let's see what this young kid is made of. If he rebounds, he will be even better than last year.

[quote="doriswilgus"]Oy vey, there’s your typical Collingwood preseason scandal. The only surprising thing is that it wasn’t Degoey, who is the usual suspect.

The best lesson of all is the one where something is taken away from you.
Piss him off from the team and swap him for a similar player who is far more mature and intelligent. Until then, let Booby Hill perform his magic ✅

I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️

The illicit substance thing is just ridiculous- I hope that Ginnivan does not go the way of another talented forward pocket who wore the number 35 in 2018.

If I were the Leadership group, I would be busting this player's balls on and off the track. He owes his peers big time.

Let's see if he has the character to bounce back from this- can you imagine opposition supporters (who loathe him already) giving it to Ginnivan after this???

There is a sign in our clubrooms that says "You either stand for something, or you stand for nothing..."

Let's see where this kid ends up.
Great comment, WL. Yes, really captures everything at stake in this incident for Ginnivan.
Under Fly, the club has been driven by its extraordinary team spirit, self-belief and pride. Ginni's actions represent an attack on all that was achieved last year. He will be made to understand this.
This experience will be the defining moment for him. Does he have the determination and resilience to learn from it, and come back all the better?
I hope he looks at this as a chance to steel himself. Pressure is huge. As you said, let's see where he ends up.

At least it’s not the week leading into Rnd 1. Still 27 days before our first game. It will all blow over by then.

Will be interesting to see Bobby in the practice games. He has been lighting up preseason training and was a chance to displace one of the small forwards outright with his form. Now Ginni’s has given it to him on a platter.

Joe Richards or Bobby Hill might get a look at what playing in front of “The Army” at the G is really like

The kid’s stuffed up but I can’t be part of the pile on. Half of 20 yr olds will have coke in their system. It’s not performance enhancing but it is stupid … that’s what kids do.

I’ll support him.

Definitely Bobby Hill from what you read from all the preseason training reports.Ginnivan might find it hard to get back into the team if Hill does well in the first couple of of games.

I agree with supporting him and that’s what the club will do but when you say that’s what kids do, how many of those kids would be educated as repeatedly and as relentlessly about drug use as players on an AFL list. None.
Can’t change the past but at least he’s owned it and that’s a good start.
