^ He also had 10 disposals (including setting up 3 goals - whether they're technically goal assists or not, who cares?) in the 3rd quarter and basically drove the opposition in the dirt.

He's getting the rust out of things after his layoff, gradually. 25 hitouts today from 47 ruck contests - 10 to advantage. 6 inside 50s (only Petracca had more), 9 score involements (a game high, matched by only Oliver and Langdon), 21 disposals at 81% efficiency. His 17 effective disposals compares alright with the leading effective disposal winner on the ground - Petracca, who had 21.

And just the 6 coaches' votes for that game.

Round 4 - Grundy was one of Melbourne's top 3, again. He attended 63 ruck contests for 33 hitouts, 13 of them to advantage, effected 7 clearances, had 22 disposals and laid 6 tackles. Oliver and Petracca ran riot, feeding off his dominance. He only played 71% game time, so he's still not quite at full match fitness.

Yep, he is certainly stepping up in Gawn's absence, the fact its the Eagles notwithstanding

And another 3 coaches' votes in round 4. He's third for Melbourne in the coaches' voting, at the moment - and the only ruckman in the competition presently on the leader board.

And last night he was completely and utterly demolished in every aspect of the game by Drapper and Phillips
It was funny reading Melbourne supporters on big footy whining how Collingwood duped them into taking Grundy
One even suggested that launch legal action against our club we must have known before trading him he was shoot as a footballer
Funny how there midfield proclaimed by P4S would now be unstoppable with Grundy in there team can’t get there hands on the ball from ruck contests
Bet there sweating on getting a half fit Gawn back to give them first use of the ball again

It's funny how Grundy is never the reason his team wins (even when he's amongst their top 3 players) and always the reason his team loses (even when he's amongst their top 3 players). Since you last bagged him, he's won two out of three games with dominant ruckwork. He remains the best ruckman in the comp - and not dominating every week doesn't change that.

Didn't get to see the game live, and doubt I'll watch a replay, but how did he actually go?

Watched the 'highlights' on AFL.com......my goodness he does some 'interesting' things...he actually dropped out of a pack in the defensive 50 to 'front'n'centre' the ball (which was marked by Essendon).

A ruckman...dropping out of the pack to rove like a forward pocket....baffling

That’s utter rubbish
He may have got a coaches vote but look who he played against
West coast who could barely fiend a side and a Sydney side missing 4 talls
Seriously go look at his game again last night
He wouldn’t rank in the best 10 players for the Dee’s
There’s a reason on champion data he’s ranked 11th best ruckman in the competition this season it’s because that’s how well he’s playing

^ No, it's because so-called "Champion Data" has no idea. They have English ranked first - and he's actually useless against good rucks (as Grundy showed - for about the 6th time - in round 1). Grundy is trying to work back from a very long injury layoff - he can't be expected to carry a team full of soft lepers every week.

This thread is ridiculous. He was a great player for us in his prime. He's now.at melbourne trying to rebuild his career.

The end.

Ok in fairness I don’t know the entire matrix of how champion data works other than
The gather all the stats from players in that position
They form a average of those stats and match individual players stats against the average
That’s the basis of it and I’m assuming there is a bit more that goes into it
So Grundy is being judged against his peers on that round on the averages
Last weekend Grundy was ranked 10th highest ruckman (at completion of all matches) Frampton finished 5th
Yes he’s recovering from injury but you’ve been banging on about how good he goes then when he’s demolished by Drapper all of sudden his not recovered but the precious week against a different opponent he was recovered
Mate truth be told we can go around in circles on this
Personally I think the club made a wise decision not just because of his wage but also I don’t think he has the desire to be a AFL player at the elite level
He’s a different person than most footballers I just didn’t think the gsme means that much to him other than the pay packet

I disagree; we are still paying good money for him and I want to know how that money is going.

Speaking of which, are we still paying Beams? Hows the artwork going?

No, thankfully that contract saga is now over.

Beams was originally contracted until the end of 2022 when he re-joined the club.
