Play nearly got started, on Day 5, but the rain came back. Covers on.

An extra hour is available, if needed.

"England now need a significant break in the rain to allow the ground to dry before play can recommence.

Even then, the gloomy conditions would make bad light a factor and potentially block the quicks from bowling as England pursue the final five wickets.

Up to an hour of lost time can be made up at the end of the day, but that would also likely be impacted by the light."

"In four Tests in this Ashes series, Cummins called tails. And on all four occasions heads won.

Another loss at The Oval in Thursday's series finale would mark the first time an Australian captain has lost all five tosses in a five-Test series since Joe Darling in 1905."

8)

Australia captain Pat Cummins: " (On winning a coin toss) I had to double check that! (Why bowl first?) There's a bit of cloud overhead and the wicket looks like a good wicket. It's a similar side to who played four years ago and we finished that series wishing we went one better. (Why Todd Murphy?) I think Nathan Lyon has always bowled well here and Todd is a class bowler so we had to slot him in. He'll go well."

England captain Ben Stokes
: "We would have had a bowl as well because of the overheads. Every time we've won the toss and elected to bowl we've started off well. You relatively know one or two days out what team you're gonna go with so we don't see the point of withholding that information. It gives the guys who are in the team ample time to prepare and those guys who didn't make it don't have to worry about that sort of stuff. Australia want to leave here winning The Ashes but this game is just as important for both teams."

Oh dear god. This is unwatchable. Just damn woeful. Here’s zero pressure, score whenever you want. This team needs a coach and a non fast bowling captain asap. Just no clue.
The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.
