My mail from a genuine club insider reckons Conden's prospects of being drafted in the NBA are quite slim. Apparently his family are mad Pies supporters and it's looking more and more like he'll end up being rookied to us. Taller than Cox, this kid has played footy all his life and is very, very mobile. If we land him, he'll be our full forward for the next 12 yrs. Come on down Alex.

C'mon Rudey don't tease me like that - it's as if you delivered a 20 year old Paul Salmon and asked if I wanted free fries with that... :P

With Cox retiring soon we'll need Condon to cover him.

I like how he held his ground against the big guy, he's got some strength to go with the height and athleticism, but the money over there is ridiculous, it's tens of millions so you gotta go for it. He can also make a fortune in lesser leagues too, but he's a good Collingwood lad and his whole mad Pie family would have watched the GF and saw what a great club we've become.

Gee great athleticism to go with the height and strength too. Did you seem him sprint down court to get inside the centre and beat him to the rim. His man was miles behind. Great short sprint off the block
Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

I'll just add that I have it very good authority from someone within the inner sanctum, that Ash Johnson is already the fittest he's been, and the club has high hopes for him in 2024. Also, the talk is that Alex Condon's basketball career is going nowhere, and he is very likely to be playing for us by August. Seriously, if this eventuates, we will go back-to-back to back-to-back. Bring it on.
It'd be somewhat poetic if the mantle of one great former basketballer passes the banner to another...

What ESPN said about Alex last month.
The other intriguing first-year player out of Australia is Alex Condon, a big-man out of Perth who'll play his freshman season with Florida.
Now, at 6'11 and 230 lbs - and the physicality with which he plays - Condon has the physical profile to be able to make an impact early for the Gators. He's a relatively skilled big, and there should be some backup opportunities for Todd Golden's team. Micah Handlogten is Florida's sophomore centre who'll start at that spot, but there's real scope for Condon to be a significant part of that frontcourt rotation, especially if he's able to shoot it from deep at the level he's shown to be capable of.

He is just started college - any talk of NBA career not looking good is premature. Normally one would finish college first,

They have a “1 and done rule” means 1 year college and then eligible for NBA draft
If he isn’t getting minutes at college (at least half game time) he won’t be drafted
NBA clubs have hundreds of prospects they see play minutes each week plus there European academy players some of who are already playing against men

yes, but they are still eligible in later years. You would not expect a first year centre to be getting a lot of minutes against the older guys, unless truly exceptional.

But yes, i agree, a lot of players are now not looking to finish college, but play in example in Australia, as a professional first, and not go to college at all.

The thing that will go against us is the new rules in college where athletes can earn sponsorship which means while he mightn’t grt big minutes year 1 he might get $75/$100k arranged by the college which is very low considering there is now several college athletes earning multi million dollar deals a year
If he was happy to try his luck and wait to go to the the draft in year 3 for instance (after 2 seasons of college ball) he will be paid a minimum if $937,000USD or about $1.35m AUD which would really put him in the top tier earners in the AFL
The carrot at the end of the rainbow is massive in the NBA if he can prove himself
If after year 1 he doesn’t think he can make it then he comes back here and has a crack if he’s getting minutes and likely to get more court time in the following season why not chance it
