Does anyone have a factual account of the reasoning 194cm / 96kg Mark Keane didn't return to the Pies at the close of 2022 as a SSP?
Did the Club not pursue him or was it simply that Murphy went ahead of him hence the Crows made their move?

He went home after a lengthy period of COVID lockdowns, came back at the end of 2021 but decided not to stay. See: https://www.mandurahmail.com.au/story/7 ... /whats-on/

That bit we know, it was his return post that I was interested in. Was it simply Murphy taking his spot or a Club call outside of that. Looking for anyone that actually had factual or close enough to the Club to have fresh intel.Pies4shaw wrote:^

Just supposition, but I noted that he came back to training in November 2021 briefly before retiring.
Maybe he didn't impress Fly or Fly didn't impress him, after he won the All Ireland Final he'd scratched that itch and wanted to come back, I wouldn't be surprised if we thought that bridge was burned. As Wright said, he'd struggled with home sickness the whole time he was here, he's walked out on us twice, who's to say he won't do it a third time?
I note we didn't take a pick in the pre season SSP that year, also that Murphy hadn't at that time nailed his spot but we had recruited Dean who we had high hopes for before he spent 2 years injured.
I think we just decided it was high risk, low reward to draft him agin, let him go somewhere else.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

THE Western Bulldogs are considering former Collingwood wingman Trent Bianco ahead of next Wednesday night's mid-season rookie draft. Bianco joined Footscray at the end of last year after being delisted by the Magpies following 23 games across four seasons. The 23-year-old has averaged 22 disposals from seven games for the Bulldogs' undefeated reserves side, around an appearance for the VFL against the SANFL.Presti35 wrote:Lets see if Bianco is picked up in the MSD next week.

Interesting game Pies and Footscray are playing with each other, with blokes not in their best 22, or rotting away in VFL, or cast off?Jezza wrote:^ The Bulldogs have shown some interest in him. He currently plays for their VFL side...
We poach Lipinski, they take Poulter, we take Sullivan....
And now Bianco is a Brownlow Medalist in the making....

It all stared with Treloar.piedys wrote:Interesting game Pies and Footscray are playing with each other, with blokes not in their best 22, or rotting away in VFL, or cast off?Jezza wrote:^ The Bulldogs have shown some interest in him. He currently plays for their VFL side...

A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned!
Going the other way, they stole our dual-premiership ruckman and premiership captain, Con McCarthy - who also captained Victoria in the 1921 Perth Carnival, before the 1922 season. At the time, Foostcray was (where they belong) still in the VFA.
When the VFL made the mistake of admitting Footscray, Con was their inaugural captain and coach. It's all a long time ago - but it makes salary-dumping Treloar and getting Lipinski as an upgrade look trivial in comparison.
