Yup, by pleading guilty he forfeits any right to claim innocence or compensation or anything, by being sentanced to time already served and released, it can't be unlawful imprisonment.

There is not a shred of evidence that anything Assange posted online put any military personnel of the US (or Britain) in harms way.
That is part of the reason why the US has had to back down from their demands to extradite Julian Assange.

The case against Julian Assange was a fraud from the start.
I hope, and am sure, that the Australian public will welcome him as a hero for exposing the truth about the criminality of the US government, and also the governments of its allies.

Yes, that is one reason.
The other, more fundamental reason, is that the US was desperate to save face. How could the US government possibly consent to allow Assange to be released without any criminal charge against him being "confirmed"?
However, one must read julian's final statement to the judge in Saipan to realise that actually, he was admitting to nothing:
Having announced his plea, Assange was asked by the judge if he understood what actions he had taken that resulted in the charge. In a powerful act of defiance against the US persecution, he replied:

“Working as a journalist, I encouraged my source to provide information that was said to be classified in order to publish that information.”

Pointing to the body blow against press freedom that the case always represented, Assange added: “I believe the First Amendment protected that activity but I accept that it was a violation of the Espionage statute. I believe the First Amendment and the Espionage Act are in contradiction with each other, but I accept that it would be difficult to win such a case given all the circumstances.”

These words will never be reported by the msm.
That is because, in these words, Assange asserted his innocence, and the trumped up nature of all charges against him.
