Clarko's within his limits, I feel. Of course a coach should stand up for his skipper. He may have stepped out of line by word, but IMO it's not awful what he did or said.
Hutchy, well...he breaks the big stories, credit to him, he generally digs up something of interest, however they don't make him popular.

Come on Sachmojo, look at what you have to do in everyday life to get by. I don't know you from a bar of soap, hell you could be the CEO of BHP for all I know, but this is no different to any organisation. With other people outside of my department I back my people to the hilt when necessary and am politically correct when there is a need. In private I get stuck into them when required and also into anyone who is unfair to me or my people. Thats life. And Clarkson has not got the years of respect that Malthouse is afforded to be aloof and angry etc, he has to play the game until he wins a premiership etc.Sachmojo wrote:Amen to that. All smiles and niceness on the air, and as soon as he's off it his demeanor completely changes. Talk about fake, thank god Mick lives by the motto "what you see is what you get", a good attribute for all coaches to develop.RudeBoy wrote:I think she exposed Clarckson for being as weak as piss. Why didn't he go for it when he was on camera? He's as weak as piss that's why. Well done to Caro for exposing the Dork.
Good on him, journo's must be held accountable.

its actually quite funny, a richmond supporter offended by the F bomb, who would have thought??
I reckon she needs to get back to where she really does belong, chained to the kitchen sink.
There is no place in football for a person of her intellect, her articles are worse than Robin Riley from the herald sun. If she wants to be a journalist, try writing a cook book.
No before the feminists jump on me i am only having a dig at Caro, there is a place for women in football, not for her though. She should join Tim Watson and get off the TV and out of the papers

She's a real bonza bird in real life that Caro......oh wait....that's been done already.
Gee....what is it about Caro that sets off the spark for the most idiotic, sexist, morontic crap to appear on Nick's in twelve months?
She's the chief football writer for the best footy paper in the land.
She's the most decorated football journalist (man or woman), doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator and understands that football fans are not all petty, small minded imbeciles.
This article aside, she is a terrific writer.
That she is a woman is immaterial.
Just what has she done to so upset you Tess?

i think the reason so much is being said and written about caro/hutchy is that people can sense that we are seeing journalism in footy being taken to a new low this season. players, coaches and now presidents are speaking up about it because they don't like what's happening and they want some limits in place.Neil Appleby wrote:She's a real bonza bird in real life that Caro......oh wait....that's been done already.

you had three club presidents getting together and being very angry about these journo's.
i agree that mark robinson did come across as being genuinely concerned about his character and his trade. the other two believe they have the right to decide where the acceptable limits of what constitutes news are. and certainly in hutchy's case he's happy to make a name and a career for himself as a purveyor of gutter journalism. I guess the fleet street papers provided some kind of balance years ago before descending on a slide to just pumping out poisonous, libelous shit.
and your right Neil, the fact that she's as ugly as a hatful of arseholes is irrelevant. she may be a very competent, skilled writer with a great network but it's the topics she increasingly chooses to write about that are the problem. she keeps tellings it's all news and it's what we want to hear about. a lot of us think that it's not.

Its been my considered opinion developed over many years of reading their shite that practically all football journalists are nothing more than parasitic self important assholes who are given far more attention than they deserve.
Where is most of the BS about football, "player/coach scandals', 'necessary rule changes', 'alternative strips' etc etc coming from? They are all generated by these fools. They are NOT coming from the heart of football, the fans. Just look at the mess Bartlett, an old has been who has turned to journalism because he can do nothing else, (and what a noxious sub species of journo they are) has made of the In The Back Rule.
So what do you call a busload of footy journos going over a cliff?
A good start!

Well, I think Tess's arguments are worth considering, only because she doesn't resort to the gender bash, but they are way off the mark anyway.
How can describing Caro as "as ugly as a hat full of arseholes" possibly support your case Noddy? It's the same as the other lame arguments put in this thread, you know, glad I'm not married to her etc. Pathetic!
Do you criticise Hutchy as an ugly, arrogant looking turkey?
Are the looks of Mark Robinson or Mike Sheahan bandied about in here as reason to be critical of their writing?
It's a bit like the pointless attacks the Coalition keep making on Julia Gillard.
She's not married, so how can she understand families?
It's moronic clap trap.
There's a very unhealthy obsession with Caroline Wilson's gender here.
Criticise her arguments by all means but please but do it without sexist, discriminatory cheap shots.
And as for her writing what we don't want to read....well you can do the the smart thing Noddy and stop reading it. Or you can write to the editor or, dare I say it, write to Caro.
I stopped reading Andrew Bolt and listening to Neil Mitchell years ago. I don't like what they produce. It has nothing to do with Andrew's appalling hair style or Neil's fat frame or that he hates Collingwood (well that has something to do with it I admit!)
Do I want to read about injuries and stories about Nathan Buckley's wife's shoe shop. Yes. I also want to read about AFL plans for our game and analytical stories about the game's future. Sexism, racism in footy??? Sure, I want to read about it. Was I interested in fistycuffs in channel nine studios? Yep, I was mildly interested. Should Caro have written the story? Probably not.
Tess, I'm not sure that you assumption that the majority of AFL fans don't like her writing, is true either. Maybe the AFL fans you talk to don't like her, but that doesn't mean you are able to speak for the majority.
Come on Nick's people, question her judgement, but please don't smack her down simply because she doesn't have a penis or write the cheap, nudge-nudge wink-wink locker room drivel.

there was a thread here a little while ago about the ugliest players in the afl. and there was a segment on the footy show about the ugly team of the century. where were you then ? their looks have no bearing on their ability to play footy. why didn't you coming rushing to their defence ? maybe you have a thing about caro ?Neil Appleby wrote: How can describing Caro as "as ugly as a hat full of arseholes" possibly support your case Noddy? hutchy is better looking than caro. even mike is. i did post criticism here a little while back about robinson that referred to his appearance.. you weren't offended then, why not ?Neil Appleby wrote:Do you criticise Hutchy as an ugly, arrogant looking turkey?

i don't read her column much anymore. i read the age on the web and if i see the headline is another "human interest" piece (read, maliciously trying to tear someone down) i pass on it. i stopped reading patrick smith's column years ago. most of my view regarding caro in the last couple of months is based on her appearances on footy classified.Neil Appleby wrote:And as for her writing what we don't want to read....well you can do the the smart thing Noddy and stop reading it. caro and hutchy are well on their way to becoming the andrew bolts of footy. that's what bothers me. i love footy and i love reading about it and watching footy tv shows about it. i reckon the people we're discussing here do a poor job of covering the game and we deserve better. in other threads, myself and others have pointed out examples of other journo's who do a great job but don't get the same airplay or the title of "chief football writer".Neil Appleby wrote:I stopped reading Andrew Bolt and listening to Neil Mitchell years ago. i reckon you're probably really ugly too Neil. and humourless.

You're right Noddy.....I am really ugly.
As for having no sense of humour, you draw this conclusion because I thought your comment about Caro looking like a 'bag of arseholes' wasn't funny?
Here's some news for you Noddy, it isn't funny. It's sexist and embarrassing.
Wonder if you'd think it funny if someone used expressions like this about your wife (if you have one) or your sister, mother in a public forum.
By the way I'm one of the few in Nick's who uses my real name. (That's more by accident than design I admit.)
My point Noddy, is that I don't make outrageous comments behind a pseudonym.
You won't find me slinging off at people in here either....well I have gentle digs at Dave from the Pines and Joffa and at Hal but it's usually humourous and harmless and really, they deserve it. At least Joffa uses his his real name......sort of.
Just admit you are wrong Big Ears and we can move on.

if my wife or daughter were on the receiving end of comments about their appearance, the person making them would find out that they have a pretty good sense of perspective and give as good as they get. they wouldn't need daddy to come and save them. i doubt there'd be a big drama in our household that day. (you asked).
i can say with confidence that caro has caused more grief to people with her column than anything thrown around here would have hurt her. even she would agree with that.
in future, if i am about to post something that might affect your delicate sensibilities, you can be sure that I'll go right ahead. then you can hop on your little high-horse and fire away. if the moderators agree that they want nick's to be some kind of colourless bastion of political correctness and throw me out, that's cool, i'd be out of here anyway.
you have answered one question, though. does anybody want to read stories like the shit about lance whitnall's eggs ? yes, apparantly. the neil applebys of the world.
one other thing. you have something else in common with joffa. you keep telling everyone how you post under your real name. it's as if you both think that somehow entitles you to a special status, or adds extra weight to your opinions. it doesn't.
(btw - have you used google ? i'm sure you could find some kind of feminist site where you could hang out with likeminded individuals and wail about the evils of our sexist world).
