"They're the rules champ" :)

Any which rule was it that caused the other thread to be closed? Was that the one outlawing democracy? Speaking of rules, can the AFL rules committee use your logic to defend every single one of their actions?

Holding up rules as the ultimate and unquestionable source of authority is a pretty low level of moral development IMO.

And i still have no idea whatsoever why you felt the need to close the other thread, apart from a wish to stifle dissent.

Oh, and yes it was for making an obscenely sexist comment. I accept what he said was atrocious, but merely question your tactics.

Cheers

One last thing, i just realised that questioning the mods "will not be tolerated"

Isn't that horribly hypocritical coming from a group of people who consistently blast umpires for not being held accountable, and not making their processes more transparent.

DTM had been warned, looks like his points added up and he has copped a 1 week ban (or maybe 2 I'm unaware of how long he willbe suspended for)

I too will miss his posts in this time, just the same as we missed Brodie's input for the first 6 weeks this year at Collingwood.

Dave will be back as mentioned, not all of us are afforded that luxury after being red carded, so all in all I think it was a fair decision.

Not sure if any of the above posts were directed at me. But, I'm not a mod, though I have been - and I understand how difficult it is to find a balance without someone having a problem with the way things are done.

Guidelines are necessary sheriffe. It's got nothing to do with 'moral development' - but more to do with the need to have a consistent approach to management of the bb.

Maybe those that don't know how to use the edit button should be yellow carded, at least!

You know have to admit, Dave has been walking a bit on the wildside with his comments and his swearing, he has done the same on Bigfooty and has been warned about it even there.

In the chat room he was asked kindly to refrain from swearing but he kept on going and was booted he came back made some comment about not being back or so until sometime in the future (I cannot remember the full context of the comment.)

Omar, I guess the important point is, this isn't a democracy. It's a dictatorship (benevolent or otherwise). And in the end the mods have ultimate decision in who they send to the gulags.

Laws are necessary in all forums and walks of life, and for laws to exist, lines must be drawn. Of course, the very existence of these 'lines' ensures that there will always be borderline decisions. But that's the way it goes.

Being a family site this site really does need to work on the swearing sure we sometimes get a bit worked up in the heat of the moment. But we need to realise that we can and should be able to post a response without them in there.

And if you are warned about making comments that do break the rules and you fail to adhere to those rules and those warnings you deserve your punishment. And this is not a shot at DTM, but anyone that has been warned they should realise they are in the wrong and stop.

DTM has been banned from BF more times than he has been here. Every second week he would post about it here.

Surely, that is some indicator of how he respects the rules of each board - learning disability or not!

For all of you saying it's a dictatorship, i agree completely. I also do think it's a relatively benevolent one in this case; the mods do a good job IMO

What I'm suggesting is a change of the rules. Now, if anyone can think of reasons why not, i would be interested to hear them, but for god's sake stop citing the rules as the reason we can't change the rules!

Oh and Joel, a) nah it wasn't directed at you or anyone b) i haven't had any experience running a board and c) i wouldn't want to (except as part of the democratic process i'm talking about) as i don't believe in that sort of power structure.

It's a shame at times he has been really working on his threads, and sometimes he hadn't posted as many. As well as, actually having the spelling right in some. I had thought that maybe he had started to turn the corner, hopefully now he can see his errors. Then he can come back, and hopefully be more respectful of the rules.
