The 2007 annual..walk for epilepsy awareness

Post by jeff corfe »

I'll post all the info re this years epilepsy walk in this forum as i dont want to clogg up the general discussion forum.
Many thanks to Nicks board for allowing us to heavily promote the first awareness walk in 2006 it was a huge success.

Several different things will take place in 2007 at my request i have asked the epilepsy foundation to not call the walk the joffa walk for epilepsy awareness, its my belief we can and must get all states on the same day to walk for epilepsy awareness giving it national attention.

I was chuffed at the response with associating my name with last years walk it has paved the way for future awareness programmes.

This years walk will be during the football season we're looking at a date somewhere late August..and we're looking at doing something at federation square, with printed balloons for the kids and epilepsy awareness brochures for all who wants one.

This year we will be joined by Peter McKenna who has been touched by the tragedy of epilepsy, Peter has agreed to go public with his story and his presence on the walk will be huge in our attempt to get the message out to all sections of the community.

We invite everyone to become involved and spread the word about this very important and misunderstood illness.
cheers

Some finer details were sketched out today with the Epilepsy Foundation.

The walk has been set down for Saturday 18th August.

A national website for Epilepsy awareness walks in Australia to be put in place.

Brooke Hanson the Victorian Epilepsy ambasador will also be taking place in the walk.

A registration fee not yet determined will be put in place for all those wishing to take part in the walk.

The walk will commence around 11am from Southern Cross Station and proceed to Federation Square, where speeches will be made.

Will keep the updates coming!!

Update 26/6/07

The register for the walk has been abandoned because we havn't got enough time to get the national awareness walk website up and running.

The walk will still take place from southern cross station to fed square at 11 am and head down towards Richmond station area...nothing else has changed, will be back with more updates :)

The walk for Epilepsy awareness will not be held in August this year it has been moved to March 08.
It's been decided with other things planned to set up the walk then, we're also hoping that all other states will be commencing walks for Epilepsy awareness giving it a nice national flavour.
Cheers
