Ben Reid et al

Post by Millane42 »

I was a fan of the kid when I first saw him but watching him on Saturday confirmed he's a dud and an unfortunate waste of a top ten draft pick number eight. He's another egan: flapping his arms as the opponents run past him instead of making a tackle, looks puffed, can't reid the play (pun intended), can't mark and can't kick.

This week I would drop Johnson - he was dire - Bryan and Bustling Ben Reid and play Rocca, Wood and Beams.

MM should also be dropped and give Neeld, Caracella or Hudson a go. MM can sit on the bench.
Most of my favourite bands start with "M" - Mars Volta, Mastodon, Megadeth, Metallica, Midnight Oil, Misfits...except King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard ~

We gave Tarrant for Reid, they both will stop playing AFL footy within the next 1-2 years.

Thank god for Medhurst.

Amazing the medhurst was only the sweetner in the deal. Now you would not even accept a deal for Tarrant + Reid for Medhurst.

I am not as dire on Reid as others here. I basically discount his first year given he was barely old enough to be drafted. He did well to get 2 games. Last year he got injured so didnt really get a huge chance. So therefore this is like his 2nd year to me. He was good enough in the VFL.

Still incredibly young and raw in the body. Doesnt have Trav's body size yet but i think he will. Reminds me a little of a young Chris Tarrant and we all saw him bulk up nicely.

At the moment he doesnt have a role in the side so would be first dropped. Bring back Rocca or give Dawes another shot as he has a better shape for footy and is a few years older.
There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

Dawes has a 100% better skill set than Reid's in every respect. He has played the game since he was a kid and has the instincts for it. I'm not sure Reid has that yet. He needs to learn the game before he is put up to the seniors again. To me it was very poor selection to play Reid ahead of Dawes in the forward line.

Dawes is a footballer, Reid is an Athlete being turned into a footballer. Reminds me of Kinnear. Maybe Reid will be a 10 year 50 game player.

Agree Dawes look more of a Footballer those he just missed a season with his Knee that has him behind Reid but Reid might come a good player but I don't see him coming a Star those

I'll stick with Reid. I've seen enough in the VFL and some of the AFL games to say hell be a really good player.

Drafted at 17. PLayed a couple of games in the first season and showed real promise (kicking at goal is dodgy admittedly. Field kicking seems to be acceptable).

2008 was solid in the preseason games (like kicking 4 goals and getting a fair bit of it off half forward). Got injured preseason and when he recovered went straight into the seniors to play poorly (Should have come back via VFL!). Went back to VFL and got another senior spot only to break his foot.

2009 he still is only 19. How many other Tall forwards are playing good games at this age? While a few years in the system he is still nearly equivilant to first year draftees.

By all means if you think he's a dud, then great. But based on your logic, Dick & Russling should be put into the same boat?

Way way too early to call his future. Most here still think Wood will be OK in the future, and hes still rated "young", but is 3 years older than Reid. Yet you expect Reid (also a tall who has not matured at all yet) to be a consistant footballer. Go figure?????

I still think at worst he'll be a very good player. Maybe not the Gun I'd hoped. With his youth and immature body he WILL be inconsistant. A block of 4 games is needed to see where he is at for 2009. I hate it when we drop young guys after 1 poor game. But Reid may be dropped based on Team balance.

IMO can't make a call on this guy until his body matures a fair bit (21 at least). KPP need time and patiance. From what I remeber Buddy did very little till he was 20+. Fev even older. Cloke 20+ and they had more mature bodies than Reid

i disagree, wen he gets a bit smarter and aware in a footballing sense his agility will make him quite dangerous.

still very younf and big men take longer to mature. i think he will be very good.

Dawes kinda worries me. Has skils etc, but tends to stay out of the contest, becomes a spectator too often for mine. Not sure if u can get that outta a player.

Be handy if we knew, let alone Ben knew what spot he is playing.
From my visual recollection, spent most of the NAB down back.
Round 1, plays forward.
Pick a spot, leave him there and let him develop.
Tend to agree with previous posts, 19 years of age, 6 games, too early to right him off
