Maybe it's due to the 'Not My Fault' society we now live in.

'Why did you commit that crime?'

'Not my fault. I had a rough upbringing.'

'Why can't you spell?'

'Not my fault the teecha at skool neva lerned me propa!'

Just as a side topic to this. DTM in particular, his spelling and even grammatical errors were woeful. Understanding him was a challenge.

However, ever since we have been pointing out his errors, much to his credit he has improved drastically.

I agree that sometimes it may go over the top. But the English language is the way it is.
All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

A pirate.

We don't have enough pirate avatars on this site, I feel.

"better than pirates"? That part of the sentence confuses me.

What if a person with a learning disability starts to post on a forum, and wants to be apart of the community, but they have trouble spelling, and even though you point out there is an addon for firefox and such, they still have trouble. I mean the spell check doesn't help with AFL players name if you stuff 'em up...;)
