WAUGHS WORLD CUP WASHED AWAY ??

Post by JLC »

It appears that rain has washed out the game between NSW and Australia.

I would say that unfortunately his world cup is washed away as well.

I cant believe the selectors dont think Steve Waugh is a better player than Darren Lehmann ?? Maybe in the sub continent against spin bowling but in South Africa i would back Lehmann.

Surely the all rounders position will go to Ian Harvey. Out of all the all rounders he is the one i would be confident at bowling at the end of an innings and has enough variety in his bowling to keep batsmen honest. Harvey is also a brilliant fielder. I cant see Greg Blewett or Symonds getting away with bowling against quality batsman.

If Brett Lee could develop a decent slower ball he would be very handy at the end of the innings.

Ideally

McGrath bowls 7 overs at the start
Gilesppie bowls 8 overs at the start

Warne Bowls in tandem with Lee from overs 16 - 25

Harvey takes over from Warne and bowls 26 - 35

By this stage Brett Lee has bowled his 10 overs.

Gilesppie then comes back in and bowls his final two overs in tandem with Warne. 0vers 36 - 39

Warne then bowls his final 3 overs with Harvey. overs 40 -45

McGrath and Harvey then bowl the last 5 overs

Thats just my rough thoughts about the bowling. Ideally McGrath and Harvey bowl at the end of the innings.

Here is my best team:

M. Hayden
A. Gilchrist
R. Ponting
D. Martyn
M. Bevan
S. Waugh
I. Harvey
B. Lee
S. Warne
J. Gilesppie
G. McGrath

Well that's a very good plan JLC, I like your thinking. Sadly after much planning as a captain on what you'd like to happen, after about 10 overs that can be in tatters sometimes.

However I like the team you've picked bar a few selections. Here is my Australian team.

Arnberger
Jewell
Rummins
Hodge
Elliott
Moss
White
Warne
Berry
Harwood
Inness

Bloody good team, Fradam. Well it's gotta be a good team if you can't fit Harvey in. Presumably, he's 12th. man, right ?

Your very observant Donny. Yes I left Harvey out and no he's not 12th man. Mick Lewis is my 12th man in my world cup team and he's unlucky not to get a game. He did well in the PM's XI today. Harvey is 13th man. The guy can bowl but he frustrates me with the bat, he always finds a soft way to get out.

NOT HAPPY JAN! my dad always seen him hanging around the club when he was only like 4, he was a little gun at cricket and everyone knew he was gunna be something special! i guess thats why they call him " THE FRECK"

As each day passes the more and more i think Langer needs to play. Save Gilchrist for a lower innings onslaught and keep him away from the new ball.
