Not sure why we do this only for team to throw it back in our face. Another example is St Kilda, over the last decade have got St Kilda - $156m in funding from the AFL. Collingwood the lowest Collingwood - $93.3m. They use that money to have a crack at JDG.
That is the way equalisation works but for all we do as a club to make the AFL what it is... want 3.30pm on a Sunday to rate... schedule Collingwood... we don't get very much back.
There is a cry in the press and elsewhere about what a season 2022 was... AFL has never been better!!!! Take Collingwood out of this year and it was just another year. It was us that made this year special.

So Melbourne are telling us to get stuffed for way unders. Let’s hang on to him. The fuchsia’s are nothing more than entitled prats (add Geelong to the mix)
All part of the unseemly trade week. I’m sick to death of “time will tell” and other truisms.

Melbourne will cave and swap 16 with 13. They just lost Jackson they can I’ll afford let let Grundy slip though their fingers.

Could this be a master stroke from Wright? We lead everyone into thinking we can’t afford to keep Grundy…, Now that Jackson is gone, we have some of the power back with the Grundy trade…. In that Melb now need a second ruckman…. We played nice enough and now that Jackson is gone Wright tells them we want more, and if you don’t give it, we keep him.
In reality, we probably have enough space in the cap to keep Grundy if we have to. Consider the below.
Hill - $400k
McStay - $650k
So $1M in…..
The brown Bros - call it $350k each. We’ll lose someone else like a Madgen or Poulter… there’s another $350k and that nets out the two ins.
And I’m sure there’s still enough fat in the cap for a Frampton, for example.

This is a great point and one I hadn’t thought of. I was lamenting that we had no control in this deal but they (Melb) are now arguably a ruck short. Still think it would be difficult for team cohesion for Grundy to stay (reading between the lines) - but they probably need to deal as well.

And in the mean time, all of the other available rucks have selected other homes (Meek to hawks, Soldo seems GWS etc).
What would be brilliant (but also incredibly unlikely) would be we keep Grundy, let Henry go for 25, then pay overs to hawks for Mitchell say 25 and a first rounder but get them to cover almost all his salary

I think he’ll still be traded, but at least now Melb somewhat needs him, which gives us a little more bargaining power.
Especially if they get rid of Weideman who could potentially act as their second ruck.

If it comes down to bring in Mitchell v keep Grundy just keep Grundy.
I heard that if they won’t budge on pick 27, then we say take on board a heap more of his salary.

Bloody interesting times I tell you.
What if Grundy stays?? Is the Cap stuffed?? Will we keep a spot free for the MSD? Does that end our trade period? What does that mean for Frampton, Fiorini and Mitchell?? I cant wait to see what happens!

I think we will still get pick 13 from them. Just depends how much we have to give up.
Hoping we turn their first and Henry into pick 7 still.

Jackson is gone so unless Melbourne can convince a Lobb or Meek to nominate them as an option we now have some genuine bargaining power because as it stands Melbourne haven't fulfilled our requirement for a pick inside the top 25 for Grundy. We aren't the bad guy here.
As I see it they now have 4 options to choose from.
1. Seek out an alternative to Grundy.
2. Swap their pick 13 for our 16 as part of the deal.
3. Add a future 2nd round selection to sweeten the pot.
4. Reduce our yearly salary contribution by $100,000.
Hopefully Wright stands firm on the deals for both Grundy and Henry and either gets an improved offer or we walk away.

Mitchell doesn’t come if Grundy stays. I’m backing both trades get done also Frampton, not really sure on what happens with Fiorini.
