Yep, Vale Strop - the best comedy sidekick we have ever produced.

And a most astute businessman too; don't let his on-screen persona deceive you

Ernie Sigley 1938-2021

Post by Presti35 »

Television and radio star Ernie Sigley has died at the age of 82 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-16/ ... /100379248
One of the greats of Australian radio and television.

I mainly remember him pairing up with Denise Drysdale on TV when I was a child.

A keen supporter of the Bulldogs, Im not sure how ill he was when they won it in 2016.

Not a big rap for the 'Little Aussie Battler', with a big house in Glen Iris and nice house at Inverloch.

Ernie was alright, I liked him on TV.

I remember back in around 87, I lived in a rental house on Toorak rd Camberwell. Went out for dinner with the then fiance, came home to find my mate who lived with us, car wasn't in the driveway.

Went inside to find him sitting in a chair drinking in the dark, he'd been delivering Pizzas and wrote his car off. Smacked headfirst into a tree in a dark spot of dead end road, right in front of Ernie's house, just around the corner from us.

Ernie had ran out of the house and, after checking that my mate was alive and didn't need an ambulance, proceeded to abuse the living suitcase out of him for dangerous driving

He always came across as a genuinely affable bloke on radio. Somehow, I have memories of him having a prodigious knowledge of film and entertainment (bores me to tears, but my folks knew every movie, actor and entertainer when I was growing up and listened to him).
