I think it’s common knowledge that he used leverage in his contract negotiations with the club to maximize the best deal he could achieve, on threat of returning to Adelaide. We gave in to his demand for seven years from our prospective of offering up to five, only because we thought we were in premiership mode and didn’t want to lose him.

Now as to what McRae thought of him as a player and how he could utilize his talents, as opposed to how Buckley employed his talents, no one know for certain. All we know is what both McRae and Wright have publicly stated in that Grundy improves our clearance rate and that it was in the main a salary cap issue as to his leaving and the conversation with him began 12 months ago.

We got pick 27. Probably could have received a pick in the teens or even top 10. But the contract had to go. So we get pick 27.

I hope picks 25 and 27 can turn into a real win for us after everything that happened.

Craig McRae actually made quite a few public statements over the year, namely: “We're trying to get him to play forward of the ball sometimes, behind the ball and we just want to get him settled. We're not quite there but it's a work in progress with Brodie,” in April; “I’ll leave that list management stuff up to Graham Wright. I’m here to protect and love our players and make them the best they can be while they’re here,” in July; and “It’s quite a difficult one for Brodie because he has been trying to get back to playing, now he is not. That emotional disconnect, if you like. He had an operation earlier in the week so, at the moment, he is living in this space where he is not sure. And that’s a difficult place to live. We are just trying to support him around that in the short term,” in August.

As he openly said in the July quote, McRae will always try to protect his players in public, so, for example, the April quote removed of protective spin is saying, "Brodie is playing very poorly, so we've been trying to find a position on the football field that will best hide all his deficiencies, but so far we haven't succeeded."

Anyone who believes McRae's statements quoted in my previous post were an endorsement of the football capabilities of Grundy is obviously too emotionally tilted to be able to think clearly, especially in light of what has happened since and when those statements are contrasted with McRae's statements on the controversial De Goey.

npalm didn't express any such view. He simply said that what you posted was nonsense, which it was.

It must be exceedingly traumatic for you to have to face the reality that neither Graham Wright nor Craig McRae rates Grundy (and, worse still, no AFL club rates him, not even Melbourne, who have just grudgingly traded him in when what they really wanted was to retain Jackson).

"Traumatic"? Nothing about football is "traumatic". It's a game. I would have preferred that Grundy had not been traded but he has been.

Tough. We move on - or, at least, those of us who don't, post like you do, to troll about Grundy move on. Just as we did when, amongst many others, Alby Pannam (an old neighbour of mine in Woolton Avenue, back in the day), Ian Bremner, Doug Searle, Robert Dean, Len Thompson, Peter McKenna, Fabulous Phil, Peter Moore, Daisy etc left. If it matters - and of course it doesn't - the decision to trade Grundy is much less problematic from where I sit than was the decision to trade Heater. The Coach has to be allowed to determine what players he does and doesn't want on the list.

All of that said, I don't expect to see you posting at any time in the future about what your all-too-florid imagination speculates might be my emotional state. Perhaps you might go (back) now to our Sports Bar and troll Steve Smith, instead?

I’m not a Grundy fan and had my say several times during his thread BUT

I agree with Rude let’s give it a rest
Grundy is now a Melbourne player
His contract is no longer our problem
I wish him no misfortune or injury and I won’t be booing him when we play them
Like him or not rate him or not he did his best when he donned our jumper and should be respected for that
