Just watching this game, anyone who thinks Clarkson is done is very wrong. The way he has Hawthorn playing today against Sydney is brilliant...compare it with what Bux achieved with our team against the same opponent. The Hawks' willingness to play through the corridor, their fast ball movement and their forward pressure has been fantastic, from a team below us on the ladder. I just think thie opinion that I often see voiced on Nicks, that we have no choice but to play sideways and backwards in an ultra defensive mindset because our list is so inferior, is just so self defeating ...and wrong. clearly it is Bux' conception as well, which explains how we have played for much of this year.
Would love to get Clarkson, whether or not Sydney can win tonight. But I don't think Hawthorn will let him go. They will let Mitchell go instead, rather than lose this master coach. And I think Clarkson will stay with them. He would have a similar project in rebuilding Collingwood as rebuilding Hawthorn, so why would he be disloyal?
Beware of assuming that Sam Mitchell would be the man we should consider instead. While he has the advantage of coming from Hawthorn's amazing system, beware of assuming that ex legends of the club can automatically become master coaches.
