Wowee... Two-time winner (but now old "soccer mum"*) Azarenka beat Pegula! :shock:

There was an article about her in The Australian. She had a custody battle some years ago over her son Leo. That wiped out a tennis year for her. Couldn't even play the US Open. 'Cos that'd mean leaving Leo in Calif. while she went to NY.

Wow... She reckons she has another GS left in her. She's two wins away from the AO title now!


* Leo and Mum barrack for PSG.

On the men's side, looks like Tsitsipas is the only one who might stop Djokovic.

Is he up to it? :?:


But Djokovic's alleged hammy injury is "still the talk of the town".

Should've put money on the Djoker pre-tourney. :(

Got scared off by the "hamstring injury"...

Should've known better? If it was really so bad, wouldn't he have defaulted the pre-AO match where he got "injured" instead of risking it?

AO TD Craig Tiley claims it was a 3cm tear.

But how'd he know?

Tiley sometimes makes a fool of himself. And the Vic Gov. is reported to be unhappy with the AO guys...

BTW...

Well done to Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler for winning the AO men's doubles title...


But... gotta wonder 'bout the standard of AO doubles... They're not singles stars, and this was the first tourney they'd played together... ever! (They got a wildcard entry.)

In other news...

John Isner lost 7-6 6-7 2-6 2-6 to Mannarino in R1 of the singles...
But he's just become the 1st man to win 500 ATP tour tie-breaks (in QF, Dallas Open vs. Emilio Gomez).


Sheesh, he's a 1D player. All serve and nothing else. That's why so many TBs.
