This suggestion is beyond ludicrous.

Here’s how the AFL media machine works. Someone sprouts a theory about “potentially” putting a player up for trade. Someone else mentions it. Someone suggests that it might be a good idea. Someone asks “which clubs do you think would be interested in a player like that?”. Someone gives a response “well Club X are looking for a player like that so they could be interested”. Someone then reports that the player “has been linked to Club X”. And there we have a story to talk about, dissect and fill column inches.

It’s just sooooo cynical.

Pftttt.

Just for the fun of it, ill bite!
Firstly I would look at Aiden Begg and see how far he is from playing. I would hesitate to sell Grundy and only have Darcy and Mason to depend on as rucks. What if 1 of them go down? Grundy isnt there and Begg isnt ready...what then??

Could Liam Mcmahon develop as a ruckman or if he develops as a key back could he free up Moore to play ruck just like his Dad. Could Will Kelly improve enough to fill a KP and free up Moore as a ruck.

As much as I like the idea of getting Grundy off the books to free up cap space I think we would have to have someone to replace him, either traded in or from within.

What if we get offered 2 first round picks for Grundy?? That would turn my head a little more...

Laughable that anyone takes this seriously IMO.
Next it'll be Nick Daicos going to Carlton.

Grundy so far has had 6 chances to play under a new coach and system.

I suggest we wait and see how he and by extension Cameron goes in 2023 before entertaining moving him on.

100% correct Skids. I seriously cannot believe that anyone would swallow moving on an AA Ruckman. Granted he played below average before his injury, but I saw in that same game a determination we hadn't seen in a while.I believe he wants to stay,I believe the Coach wants him to stay and I believe the club wants him to stay. Just the supporters?? who want him gone. I'd like to see their thoughts if Cameron or Cox go down.

Yes, he is one of the best ruckmen in the league but he's not indispensable.
Grundy probably will improve our team upon return when he hits top form. However, if its a matter of lose Grundy and pick up a young 1st class mid/fwd, high draft pick, cap cash,.. etc - Its worth considering.

Some of these two bob ruckmen going around, are VERY good value.

Look what’s being talked about by Cornes and Rockliff isn't earth shattering news
Let’s be honest
Under the current regime Grundy mightn’t be seen as valuable as he was under the previous regime
When he went down injured Buckley stated that he didn’t see if affecting the team’s performance as much as many on the outside believed
People scoffed at it then but look at the results
Is Grundy a better player than Cameron or Cox absolutely he is
But is he worth 2.5 or 3 times more money ? That’s the debatable point

Let’s be real no other club would have offered Grundy the same money or terms as we did
It was more about Eddie’s ego saying no one gets a player we want to keep no matter what it costs us
Buckley has made it fairly clear he wasn’t in favour of the length or size of the deal
When asked directly on SEN months after he left the club he flipped the question around and asked would you pay a ruckman that much money
He also said it hasn’t stopped Richmond or Bulldogs winning premierships without a recognised ruckman
Million dollar players must be match winners and match turners every week
Grundy isn’t that for all his strengths
This isn’t a knock on Grundy he is a very good player but be honest how many games can you look back over the past 2 years and say we won those games solely because of Grundy’s performance ? 1 maybe 2 at most
Rucks don’t win games off there own back (maybe with the exception of Gawn’s 5 goals in a game in recent times) there important in many ways but are rarely match winners

Wright is smart and a clever operator and he would remiss if he didn’t look at every avenue to improve the team long term

What if you were told you could keep JDG & Sidey as well as add Taranto and 2 young KPP via the draft all for only losing Grundy ?
Would you consider that deal ?
It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen but I would be disappointed if Wright wasn’t exploring all options on improving the list long term

Outsiders trying to destabilise the club cause they hate our current winning form.

I hate that so many get sucked into it especially while we have games to play and win

No, doesn't take as many marks, nor does he kick as many goals.
His taps are too often sharked by the opposition players...too predictable.

The Cameron/Cox combination works, let's keep it that way.

I have a completely different view of this rumour.
Why couldn’t it be true ? If Port or anyone are looking for a ruckman, they would be derelict in their duty to not make enquiries about Grundy, given Cameron’s rise. Conversely, if Collingwood felt Taranto ( EXAMPLE ONLY ) is the genuine clearance player we need to make us better, why wouldn’t we entertain conversation with a Grundy suitor if it gave us the cap room to make it happen. Again, Collingwood would be derelict in their duty if they didn’t seek clarification as to just how much a club would cough up in a Grundy trade. Every trade in footy starts with someone asking the first question.
I’m not suggesting Grundy is going anywhere but let’s not be naïve enough to think he’s above conversation. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.

There's nothing wrong with two clubs having a conversation about the availability of Grundy as a trade. However all conversation stops if the player decides he wants to stay and Grundy has given no indication he wishes to relocate to another club and his 7-year contract binds him to Collingwood unless he wants to leave and the club decides to let him go.

You'd be a fool if you didn't want that deal.

Look, its unfortunate to be in this position, but its an outrageous contract for a ruckman, its the easiest position on the field if you are tall, hence the over supply of reasonably priced competent ruckmen out there.
