Poor ole Usi, he copped a bad one - shouldered arms and shot himself with papa Tongues hand gun

Good start, really need an innings from Marnus now, and Warner to keep at it.

Warner also got a Jaffa that moved heaps and crashed into his stumps.
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️

Robinson is a massive flog but he has some skill for a slowish medium bowler, slowish for that level anyway.

Just as Archer’s bunny has never been dismissed in a Test by Archer, Tongue’s bunny is 85* at Stumps. It seems that Tongue has also decided to destroy Bradsmith’s defective technique some other time. Who knows, maybe it just isn’t enough of a challenge for these guys to dismiss a batsman with an average that barely reaches 60?

5:339. Head made 73., Green a duck. Carey will be back at the crease with Bradsmith tomorrow.

"On a day that promised so much for England after winning the toss on a bowler-friendly surface, Australia compiled their highest ever day one score at Lord’s.

England had gone all-in with seam bowlers, not bothering to select a specialist spinner, in the belief the well-grassed Lord's pitch and a weather forecast showing heavy cloud and the occasional dusting of rain throughout the match would provide vindication."

And then Josh Tongue comes out with this.... "I think we bowled really well as a unit that first hour.... I thought they easily could've been four or five down at lunch"

What are they on over there!?

"Half-centuries to Steve Smith (85no), David Warner (66) and Travis Head (77) have Australia in a very strong position after day one of the Lord's Test, despite being inserted by England captain Ben Stokes at the toss.

We had rain delays, glorious cover drives and even a Joe Root bouncer (!) on a fascinating opening to the second Ashes Test."

Just credit to Bairstow, best stop for the series so far when he grabbed that nuffie protester and bloody big effort the way he carried him off the ground.

I know he wasn't a really big bloke but let's say 70kg conservatively, to just stick that weight under one arm and walk 60 metres without obvious discomfort is impressive.

Concerns for england if aussies make another say 80 odd runs.

Weather is looking good as well.

5/339 is a great platform for the aussies to make around 450.

I reckon we're in the box set here is we can bat sensibly today. There's no need to push the run rate up, we know England won't bat for a draw, the more runs we get the harder they'll come out swinging. Every run we get in this first innings is one we don't have to get in the second.

I'd like to see Smith get his century and go for a double, bring Carey along for the ride and when their bowlers are tired close to tea, tee off then and get a score over 500.

This English Bazball philosophy can be turned against them because we know they will try to chase anything.

450? On this pitch, if it's sunny today, they should aim for 600.

The pitch is slow and England's only spinner is their best batsman. Wonder how Lyon will go with the ball.
