Great servant of the club who deserves our gratitude for what he produced over the years.

All parties have been mature throughout this process.

I think it’s fortuitous that Grundy and Adams arrived at Sydney at the same time and we obviously have that link to Grundy still via payments.

If I were the Club, I would have been happy to accept almost nothing for Adams if Sydney agreed to take our remaining portion of Grundy’s contract. This almost makes this a three way deal.

I don’t know how much cap space Sydney would have had (I’m sure they have filled part of Buddy’s hole already), but Melbourne would have been in a position to horse-trade. Given the timing of the deal, we may have also tried something like that (which is punters will never know about).

Then again, maybe pick #33 was the right number for Adams all along??

Glad it’s done well before the deadline. Pragmatic and allows all parties to get on with their trade plans. Mature. Adult. Well done all.

PS (maybe this belongs in the Adams thread) let me say thanks to Taylor for his commitment to the club and to the cause. Not the highest skilled, but bled black and white and still plenty of great moments. Shame he couldn’t get a medallion. Thankyou.

Fk Sydney!
What if we were also able to shave off $100k a year on what we owe Grundy?

Get a grip. What would you do if you were him - forgo a couple years at $500-600k a year of income that you will never make anywhere else?

Also, this trade hardly gifts them a flag. Remember people said the same thing about Grundy to Melbourne 12 months ago!

33 is fair considering Grundy was 46 and a future 2nd round. Plus he's out with a hammy (history of soft tissue injuries) and 31 years of age. We also save around $700k next year, and that offsets the Grundy money we continue to pay. He gets a nice superannuation top-up. Wish him well but he's no longer a Magpie.

Agreed Tay has earned this and Sydney are not going to be winning a flag through recruiting Grundy.

As much as I wish him the best there is a reason that Melbourne kicked Grundy to the kerb and had him wallowing in the McGoos.

Tay will do well as he always has but won't be the difference.

In October 2013, Adams was traded from GWS to Collingwood, as a swap for Heath Shaw.

Shaw went on to play 152 games over 7 seasons for GWS, picking up AA gongs in 2015 & 2016.

Adams played 175 games for the CFC over 10 seasons.
Collingwood Vice-Captain
All-Australian: 2020
Copeland Trophy: 2020
R.T. Rush Trophy (2nd Best & Fairest): 2017
Bob Rose Trophy (Best Finals Player): 2018

How insulting, those earlier 'nickname' posts.

Do any of you really think this Aussie bloke got into his 20s, without acquiring a nickname ?

Looking very much forward to him landing the ball lace out on De Goey's chest more frequently in his new role.

That was a real win-win trade for both teams.

Not really. A second rounder for a 31 year old who. God bless him, has declined heavily over the last 2 or 3 years is pretty good value actually.

Well done in your time at Collingwood Taylor. We'll miss you, but no hard feelings. It was tough having to miss the GF. They were not crocodile tears. They were real because he bled for our club. Nothing but the best for the future (except Sydney winning a flag of course).
