^WHE's best game for the club, I reckon. He was even throwing himself into big contests. Given his exquisite skills, by going that hard he essentially becomes an A-grader.

Held perhaps their best player to 7 touches in the 1st half; would not ask for more from a specialised tagger. Great game from PendlesMagpietothemax wrote:Thanks for this insight LH. Petracca got off the leash in the last quarter, but by then clearly Pendles had done enough damage to give us a winning lead. These insights are so valuable and educational.LaurieHolden wrote:
Of those were at the game, how long did Pendle's seem to play on Petracca?
Watching down the barrel of the TV camera, it's hard to get a real sense of how close he stuck to him during the game.
Was it a game of sacrifice your own game for the betterment of the team?
A Carlton mate who has always had good insight to what's going on across the whole field as opposed to down the barrel of a TV camera went to the game and said he thought Pendles was near our best for the role he played. While it won't show up on stats's, from his vantage point, Pendles perhaps had the most individual impact on the game.

WE must brush up on our goal kicking before the PF, missed too many , Jamie was way off at times. Nacios may help us in that dept, driving us forward, and kicking some goals. Our forwards need to lift now.

There you go. I only use the AFL app, so I didn’t know otherwise.Pies4shaw wrote:No, it's only in the App. The App also lets you breakdown player stats qtr by qtr, which you also can't do on the desktop version.LaurieHolden wrote:^ cheers mate. Balanced and considered insight as always.
Out of interest, wow much footy have played or coached, or do you just consider yourself a student of the game? I always look forward to your analysis. Thanks again.
ps' is the heat map only on the App, I can't find it on the desktop, do you have a link handy?
For those who are looking for more detail.
AFL app > matches > tap on the selected Pies game from the season to date > tap on “ players “ ( this will bring up all players involved in that match > then tap onto the specific player of interest > then scroll down for that players performance details. This includes their heat map. By default, the heat map shows their 4 quarter coverage. On the same page, you can then breakdown every aspect of their game by the specific quarter you choose to review. This includes the heat map. There are also sections for additional advanced stats and GPS tracking information ( tracker section )
Cheers.

I thought Jamie's two efforts and Mihocek's shot in the first half were all slack efforts by players who looked they thought they had those shots in the bag. Compare that with Bobby's two set shot goals - you could see the concentration and effort he was putting in to get his method right. Same with Crisp. I was surprised by McCreery's kick in deep later in the game. I thought he could have made the distance if he wanted (recognizing he was doing the team thing).Piesnchess wrote:WE must brush up on our goal kicking before the PF, missed too many , Jamie was way off at times. We were kind of lucky the Dees' forwards were so off. Can you imagine what Geelong's forwards would have done with that many entries into the forward fifty?

The Dees started with Petracca in the forward line and Pickett as their third centre bounce mid. Pendles started in the middle, so as long as Petracca remained as a forward, there was no need for Pendles to change his game while Petracca already had a dedicated opponent. Petracca went into the centre later in that quarter but I’d suggest at best, Pendlebury would only have been accountable for him as an opponent in close proximity, rather than a hard tag. Pendlebury is so creative, he’s not going to be drawn into positions on the ground where he has no influence.pietillidie wrote:^I stand corrected on that, then, Pies 2016. I might have seen Pendles with him a few times and thought it was a tag. Are you saying it was just that we were belting them so Petracca wasn't getting near it?
As posted earlier, Petracca started in the middle in the second quarter but it was Adams who stood him at the bounce. Petracca only had three possessions in the second quarter and they were all deep in his own forward line. Interesting to note that Petracca only had ONE touch around the centre for the entire first half but from the review of the replay, there’s very little to suggest that’s because of Pendlebury. It’s more likely, Petracca was ineffective in the second quarter simply because he spent a good percentage of time in the forward line. I’m guessing Goodwin thought he could create scoring opportunities with Trac as a forward. We will never know because there was very little clean ball that made its way down there for most of the first half.
Looks like we’re playing an interstate team at the G to make a Granny. Once again Ross Lyon’s game plans not holding up in finals…

I am sure Fly will be right on to this, as he said, we can still improve a fair bit, he will be onto this bigtime.Gerry Cooper wrote:I thought Jamie's two efforts and Mihocek's shot in the first half were all slack efforts by players who looked they thought they had those shots in the bag. Im not that worried about the last qtr. Fly has different gears. The whole last qtr was do not get beaten, hold the lead. Personally don’t like it, would rather bury them but can’t argue with the result.
The 30 extra inside 50s, whilst it wouldn’t have been in our favour, wouldn’t have been nearly that bad and probably 20pt + win.
I’m off in a qld holiday tomorrow so at least I can relax (save Tuesday night tribunal).

Yes,I didn’t really like how we played in the last quarter either. It was pretty clear that the intention of the players was to play out for time and hold onto the lead. They played a completely different brand of football in the last quarter compared to the first three quarters.
Now it might have worked against a team with a terrible forward line like Melbourne, but it won’t work against a team with a good forward line like the Lions.
The best way to stop a team from getting a run on in my opinion,is to kick some goals yourself.Just one goal from us in the last quarter would have stopped Melbourne’s run stone cold. And it would have spared the supporters some unnecessary palpitations in the dying moments of the game as well,

Marvelos wrote:I’m concerned with our lack of ‘killer’ instinct, we’ve been the same since the early Bucks days, shit, even the MM days, we get our lead and coast, drives me nuts, the boys packed up shop last night because they were scared to lose a game winning lead, a lead that was built on bold attacking football, I fear if they don’t get it through their $$%^%%$ heads that you never stop playing this year will go down along side all the others.
We didn’t win last night, Melbourne lost, we were fking lucky, winning Tatts without buying a ticket lucky!
Also, de Goey is the most overrated player in the comp, he hasn’t come on, Petracca gave him an absolute bath and De Goey is our Petracca.
Drop Johnny Noble fine, I guess Josh Daicos can expect to be dropped in the prelim, he has been woeful the last 2 games, teams are putting time into him now and he can’t handle it, that attention probably turns to Nick now, I’d play JN ahead of Josh ATM, that obviously won’t happen but surely JN gives us more than fking Lipinski!
Cameron is also on my shit list, i understand playing him against Melbourne but it didn’t work, surely his campaign has come to an end, Frampton comes in for mine.
Bruz! We all know they’re going to throw the book at him, we will have to go to court IMO, club probably won’t do it though.
Check the score again. WE WON!!
I love the Pies, hate Carlscum
