Magpies agree to deal
By Michael Gleeson
Collingwood have agreed to a trade giving up a future first round pick, a second round pick, John Noble and Joe Richards for Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston. There might be a pick or two in the 50’s or 60s coming to Collingwood.
“We’d like to (keep a high draft pick), and that’s probably where the arm wrestle comes in,” Collingwood list manager Justin Leppitsch said on Friday.
“Give up all your draft hand for one player, or go a different tact? That’s where it’s going to come down to for us ... we can not let it cost us our future. It’s a very fine balance. We’re respecting that, and we know the value of that, but the future of the footy club is most important.“

Re: Trade Winds: Dan Houston
Can live with that. Late first rounder; a pick around 40; and two fringe players for a dual all-Australian we should get at least 6 years out of.
Re: Trade Winds: Dan Houston
Measured response. I like it.
Imagine if we were playing footy at the same time as trading and a) Houston just won us a game with a bomb from the boundary or b) just got suspended for 5 weeks…!!!
Easy to get carried away (in both directions) this time of the year.

Phuck, we've given up a shit load and made it difficult to get anything decent from this (or next) year's draft. We'd better still be able to get Tom McGuane next year or we have shot ourselves in the foot.

How many flags do you need to make it all worth it? I’d settle for one…

Re: Trade Winds: Dan Houston
Interesting to note that part of Carlton’s pitch to Houston was the opportunity to play midfield minutes. Assuming the Houston trade goes through, we would have traded in an AA half back flanker and Perryman, who Leppa said would likely spend more time at H B in 2025, than on the ball.
Just wonder if the club possibly has other plans for Quaynor or whether maybe Houston spends some of his time on the ball at Collingwood.
Those two additions have certainly added some defensive flexibility to our line up.

Yeah, one sounds like enough. Huge difference between zero and one. e.g. Get over the line in the GF against WC and Stevo's drafting woulda been totally worth it. Sadly, not to be...
Interesting, that news bout Perryman. Before the trade, media said promise of midfield time was our "point of difference"!Pies2016 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 8:01 pm Interesting to note that part of Carlton’s pitch to Houston was the opportunity to play midfield minutes. Callum Twomey is reporting that Port have rejected this trade offer so it’s back to the drawing board tomorrow.

Re: Trade Winds: Dan Houston
Apparently the problem is Port think they got a too good a deal and are looking to give back some of picks they were to receive in this trade outcome.
Seriously, what are they playing at !
You can’t get any more blood out of a stone than what they have already extracted.

FFS!
Lets just keep 13 and 29 and trade Joe for Lord then.
Seriously Port, they've upgraded 3 picks and gotten three players at the loss of Houston. Sure Dan is the better player, but Lukosious is a fine player, Joe and Atkins could be anything.

Port are seriously wasting everyones time and possibly costing us time to do a minor deal or 2. I want to hear what Gold Coast and Collingwood really think.https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-tr ... dedCount=0
But despite yet another roadblock amid negotiations, the 27-year-old should still be in black and white colours next season.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/ree ... 5ki8b.htmlThe Power are pushing to secure another late-round selection before agreeing to the deal that would see Houston and pick 58 head to the Pies, with the Suns receiving John Noble, two future first-rounders – one each from Port Adelaide and Collingwood – and the No.39 selection this year.
Houston’s wish to return to Victoria despite being contracted until 2028 triggered a frenzy of interest.
