and who remembers a number of posters having a crack at reid for taking the wrong option in this year's preseason game vs the saints?

unlike some players, i don't get nervous when he has [or goes near] the ball.

Ben Reid gets 1 vote in the Rising Star Award.

That's right, out of 9 judges, in a 5,4,3,2,1 voting format, only one of the judges gave Ben anything.

AND IT WAS ROBERT WALLS. :o

Surely the best young defender in the AFL should have been given more credit for an amazing year.

Oh yeah, and Sydney's Dan Hannebery won the award. (for what it's worth).

We got Beams with pick 29 and then Sydney got Hannebery with pick 30. Interesting to see who is going to be better.

Both are going to be stars of the game in my opinion.

absolute joke award. It is obvious only a midfielders award.

I seriously can't work out how Jeff Garlett didn't clean up.

THis guy has kicked more goals than Alan Didak who is leading our goal kicking award. He is one of Carlton's most dangerous players already,

My votes:

5. Garlett
4. Hanneberry
3. Reid
2. Scully
1. Bastinac

How on earth Naitanui polled votes in beyond me. The guy didn't touch the footy in the entire second half of the year.

disagree that garlett should have 'cleaned up'. He's had a pretty good year however, without looking at stats or anything my perception of those good games and a bulk of those goals have come in games where carlton has won well or played a lesser opponent. i may be wrong - just a perception of him and probably betts and yarran. when there up carltons up but it seems to be all one way traffic.

hannerbery is a deserving winner. had a great year, well done.

i have to say im suprised reid didnt poll better. very similar player in andy otten from adelaide came 2nd last years award. maybe it was due to the fact he's had 4 pre seasons under his belt.

it really is a media award that to me had already been decieded who would win before the halfway point of the season.

i know which bloke id want out of that group of players.

garlett was one of the Blues best during their rough patch mid-season.

Agree Hannebery is deserving...but i liked Garlett...and Reid should've polled higher than Naitanui, Scully etc

What an utter load of garbage but we shouldn't be surprised as CFC players always get screwed in this award, both Pendlebury and Heath Shaw were robbed of winning it in recent seasons. Oh and how the hell did Rhys Palmer ever win? We can pretty much guarantee Hannerberry will turn out to be the next Palmer as like Palmer he is already a butcher of the ball.

Honestly If you had to rank Hannerberry, Reid, Trengove and Scully in the your order of preference of whom you would most like at your club I think most people would have Hannerberry last.

For what its worth my order would be:
Reid
Scully
Trengove
Hannerberry

I think the real "joke" here is where the key position players finished.

Can anyone honestly say, that if all of the top 10 players there were on the open market, that Hannebery would be the number 1 target.

Hurley and Reid are the absolute standouts to me, players who will be 10-12 year attacking defenders, there are only a handful of those the whole AFL, let alone at their age.

I'd put money on Hurley and Reid (and maybe NicNat) turning into the most valuable players over their careers to their respective teams.

Midfielders are a "dime a dozen", especially ones with questionable kicking skills like Scully, Hannebery and Tengrove.

It's a midfielders award, like most AFL awards are, which is the "real joke" here once again.
