9,10,11 depending where we finish??
That would be foolish. Keep the membership
We MIGHT lose him next year for nothing if he enters the draft. But that's unlikely as Brisbane wont finish last and so he'd be picked up by a club with an earlier pick. This is not Luke Ball with a dodgy knee who wont let other clubs do a medical on him. Everyone knows Beams is a star, it would be like another Jade Rawlings where the player is forced to play for a club he doesn't like or retire. And didn't that work out well for Jade?

There will be no pick coming from free agency compo either, which is what I assume you mean. Beams isn't a free agent until 2016 and even then we have the right to match any offer. There's only 3 options for him at the end of 2015: Pies agree to a trade, he nominates for the draft or he re-signs with the Pies. I suppose he could retire as well, but that's not really an option at his age.

Basically, we hold all the cards here, so why accept anything less than his full value? As you say, he's disgruntled, he doesn't want to be at Collingwood next year. If Brisbane don't come to the party with a good trade, then I can see Beams opening up to the idea of playing with GC or GWS in 2015.

Is a different story, he is & doesn't wanna play for us
As I said we can get 5&25 now or 9,10,11 next yr
What would you prefer?
Prefer to stand our ground and take unders next year if he doesn't have a change of mind.
You would prefer to stand your ground & get screwed next yr
That's not standing your ground that's being stupid. Briisy would piss themselves coz they would get Beans for Nothing & we get a shitty compo pk
That makes sense.😳
Long time between now and this time next year sunshine, pretty sure Beams was going nowhere for at least 2 years this time last year...things change.

We get screwed this year!!!! next year we get screwed maybe it's lube-less, maybe it never eventuates, but when you start showing contracted players the easy way out.....well, were does it end??

Your next draft pick that really want's to go home early? your next draft pick the really loves the bombers and wants to play there?

Getting absolutely bloody nothing for Beams is seen by some tools here as a WIN......

FMD.......
I don't think anyone would say it's a win. Just that it's very un-bloody-likely to happen!

You lot are getting spooked by Greg Swan and the Brisbane Lions FFS! Unbelievable undeed :P

Fact 1. The lions initially offered us pick 5 for Beams, but we said that wasn't enough, because we needed a ready-made top midfielder as well as pick 5.

Fact 2. The lions have blinked and now offered us pick 5 plus 25, enabling us to pass this to the Roos to secure their equal 2nd best player, who averaged 25 disposals this season and is a tackling machine.

Fact 3. This enables us to get what we initially asked for.

Fact 4. I'm pretty happy with this outcome.

There's nothing on the internet about a deal being done for Beams,so where is this news about this deal coming from?

Agree with Museman. When a players uncontracted is when you might accept having to take unders or nothing. When a player still has a year to go why would you cave in and accept unders? You've still got 2 whole trade periods to try negotiate a fair outcome.

Are we not allowed to reach for more ? Greenwood wants to come to the Pies anyway. A separate deal can be done there (Geoff Walsh acknowledged as this today). We could possibly use Pick 29.

We asked for what Dayne is worth and this was in isolation from Greenwood.
Has anyone considered the significant price that Brisbane pays if they do not get this deal done ? When was the last time a certified A grader declared his intention to get there ? Do you not think there will be hell to pay if they don't get this done. In the words of Kramer "It's all about Hand Jerry" and for a little while longer we hold the Hand.

1. No deal confirmed
2. They've blinked already they can blink again
3. If they do the Patful deal their 2nd pick becomes pick 19. Picks 5 & 19 is getting more palatable..
4. Swann reckons they want Christensen too. What are they offering Geelong for him?

Pick 5 and 25 is simply not enough. This is a deal you accept at the last moment if there is no other option, not in the first few days of negotiation..

Pick 5, 25 and 19 would be satisfactory, if they can get 19 for Patful.

Not going to get anything more than a first and second round pick.
Pick 5 and 19 is better than Pick 5 and 25.

The Lions haven't blinked. Pick 5 was never a real offer. 25 was always on the table. If this deal is confirmed, it's Collingwood who has blinked and accepted the weakest likely outcome.

Why don't we give Beams and our 2nd rounder for 5 and Mayes or Redden?

Beams wont be coming back, and next year, would get through the Brisbane in the draft, just like Ball got through to us.
Cant think of a club that selected a player who didn't want to play for them since we picked Barry Mitchell against his wishes - it simply doesn't happen any more.
Ross Lyon says hello.
