CARLTON'S player leadership group have given the all-clear for the club to pursue Collingwood's powerhouse forward Travis Cloke.
The on-field leaders, led by Chris Judd and Marc Murphy - who are clearly the club's highest-paid players - have indicated to the Carlton hierarchy that they would support any bid for Cloke, given the view that it would help the push for a premiership.
The leadership group recently discussed the prospect of recruiting Cloke, having been informed that the club was interested in signing the Magpies player, who has been in a season-long impasse with Collingwood over his demand for a hefty five-year contract.

Don't be surprised if MM hasn't made some calls to Travis already.

The only way Zac Clarke will be at Colingwood is if Wellingham is traded to Freo. This is something that I'm prepared to do.
I was actually thinking that as I wrote it out, don't see any other way to do it

Maybe we need to trade heavy, Hine would certainly know who could be developed from other clubs

I have no real reason or secret knowledge other than what I have seen and heard. I still think Travis will stay and he and the club will reach agreement. I refuse to see what isn't there, such as the players disdain for him or his not partaking in singing the song. What I see is the best contested marking big man in the entire game, sadly out of touch. What I see is a guy who if he turns it around is capable of carrying us to a flag. I hope they get this mess sorted out and he remains one of us.

Me too. There's a lot of speculation and reading between the lines but I won't believe he's gone until he's gone.

Whoever comes calling and whatever the offer, we have the option to match it. I'll trust the club to make the right call when that time comes.

He's forcing us to cave on the 5th year, Carlton probably can't do much better than 800K over 5 years according to reports today, and even then big name Carlton players will have to have payments deferred

But do we set the precedent of being intimidated into caving?

if i can ask a potentially stupid question...is trav a restricted free agent? ie. if he leaves, do we get some crappy draft pick as compensation? or do we need to organise a trade to facilitate the move??

Yes, Travis is a restricted free agency.

This link has the free agency rules, specifically option 3, which relates to Travis.

Old man sat next to Tom Harley on a plane today- said that Malthouse accepted the job at Carlton about 8 weeks ago, and that Cloke will go with him as well next season.

Make of that what you will. Not claiming it to be 100% accurate, just what Tom Harley said.

And Sticks was suggesting Cloke should stay - beginning to think a deal will be done and a compromise reached.

Forget all that contract bullshit stuff. On FORM alone, just form, the club should have grown some balls, and dropped him for the Dons game, he does not deserve a game at all right now on his woeful form, is a very pissweak decision, he needed to be dropped now. Not good, weak actually.

Time for Trav to stand UP

No excuses Travis--no Dawes to take some of the heat. Time to stand up son.

He is not forcing us to do anything. The club have calculated what he is worth (in their opinion) and the implication on the current and future salary cap.

The club approaches this as a commercial matter and are dealing with it in an appropriate manner. In all possibilities it is unlikely that the Pies will match the highest offer he will consider and I do not think the Pies will compromise our potential for future success by giving the farm away to the Clokes.

At the end of the day the decision is Clokes. My gut feeling is that he will chase the money. I have no issue with that. What I am disappointed in is the way the issue has been handled by the Clokes, the possible adverse effect this has had on our performance and his lack of motivation on the field.
