VFLW has a top six finals.

The Pies play a semi final next weekend. If they win they go straight to the GF. Lose and they play the winner if the other semi in a prelim.
So by winning yesterday they have a double chance to get to the GF.

VFLW: Cula-Reid excited for semi final challenge

Collingwood’s VFLW coach, Penny Cula-Reid, says her team is eager to run out on Adcon Stadium for Saturday’s semi-final against the Bulldogs.

“After the game on the weekend the girls now have the belief in what we are doing and we’re all excited”, Cula-Reid told collingwoodfc.com.au.

“With the boys also playing on Friday night, the environment around the club is really positive.”

A win on Saturday would grant the Pies a ticket into the VFLW Grand Final, while a loss would see them face the Southern Saints or Melbourne Uni in a preliminary final.

I had a chat with Penny at the netball 2 weeks ago, She was very friendly and very happy with the opportunity to coach in finals. She has done some work with the coaches at Caulfield Grammarians in the VAFA during the year to broaden her skills & knowledge.

One of the challenges we spoke about was getting the team mix right each week - balancing using AFLW players and VFL listed plus giving new girls the opportunity to play via the 23rd player option. Not an easy task with up to 5-6 changes each game.

In the finals aim is to play as many AFLW players as possible taking into account the opposition.

A disappointing loss to the Bulldogs last Saturday, but the the Pies get a 2nd chance to make the Grand Final on Sunday.

"Collingwood’s VFLW captain, Grace Buchan says she’s excited at the opportunity that waits in Sunday’s preliminary final against the Southern Saints.

“The girls are extremely keen to get out there,” Buchan told collingwoodfc.com.au.

“Obviously there is something very special that lies just around the for us.”

The top two sides will meet in what will be a rematch of the first qualifying final where the Pies managed a 15-point victory at Victoria Park.

Sunday’s game will also be the Pies’ last chance to secure a ticket into the Grand Final having fallen to the Western Bulldogs by 12 points last weekend, a game that Buchan says her team has spent much time reflecting on."
