I would keep Scotland for sure as he showed some very good form in the second half of the year.

The fact is this year we were blessed with injuries with Tarko being the only long term casualty. Next year we may not be so lucky and will need as much depth as we can.

I wouldnt go trading Scotland in the hope that King and Shackelton both unproven at senior level will come in and play regular football.

Talk of trading Burns for Stevens is absolutely ludicrous.
For one, Scotty Burns is past his tradeable date.
All respect to Burnsy but a 30yo for a 23yo, Port aren't even that stupid.
You would think Coll trading Burns would be worse than Melb trading Woey in terms of player/supporter/club unrest.
It won't happen..... :)
He is loved by the supporters, respected by the players and at 30, hasn't got time on his side to settle into another side and state. I know he is originally from SA but he has been in Victoria for near 10 years now.
He'll go into our veterans list the year after next.
Collingwood haven't alot of players nearing the veterans list.

Shackleton needs to lose a fair bit of puppy fat over the pre-season if he is any chance of playing reasonable football at the highest level next year. If anything he might be used as a power hitter in the forward line. But to suggest he is going to be used a on-baller is absurd. Needs to work extremely hard on his fitness and the word around the traps is he loves his tucker and lacks the discipline to keep it off.

Cameron Cloke is a key position player and realistically is another 12 months away from playing regular seniors.

David King is a backman who might develop into a midfielder later but other than that our midfield stocks are not as healthy as we might think.
If you look at Williamstown it was the likes of Cranage, Fletcher, Lloyd and Mahoney who dominated the centre there.

Have to keep Scotland. He wasn't the worst in the grand final.

I will be amazed if Scoots stays with us. In 2001, he played all pre season and first game against Hawthorn, played the rest of the year in the twos, then played the last game against North in Canberra, where he got 35 possessions. He then asked to be traded. MM sought Buckleys advice, and Bux thought MM had been to harsh on Scoots. So he stayed on the premise that he would play regular senoir footy after then. Last year went well as he played the whole last half of the year, this year he only played about 9 or 10 i would guess. This time i think he will ask to be traded whether MM or anyone else like it.

And just as a side note, you need to trade someone of decent quality to get quality back, and he fits the bill. And i also hope that we are looking at Tim Notting from Brisbane as he is strong and can take contested marks across HF, an area we were thrashed in this year when Rocca and Taz were held. Molly, Kinnear, Dids,OB,Leon and Lockyer arent capable of taking 1 on 1 marks under fierce pressure from the best defenders going around. Not yet anyway, as some will get stronger.

I am also imagining our Half Forward Line reading Solomon, Rocca and Notting. We will probably get 1 top liner, so it will probably be stevens. After that im not sure.

I would be rapted if we could get Notting as he is a quality player who had a down year so his trade value will be lower. I hope we get Stevens Soloman and Notting. No quality ruckman available plus i think guy richards will be ready next year.

Where did this notting talk come from? I doubt very much Brisbane will trade Notting despite the fact he missed out in the GF. Does he wanto leave or something? I just wish malthouse gave Scotland a full season so we could see his full potential. I honestly don't blame the guy if he leaves, its a crock of shit how many senior games he gets and how little time he gets on the rare occassions he actually gets picked. The guy gets around the 20 possi mark with about 50 - 70 minutes game time. Stevens is a gun tho, there's no doubt about it and I think we'd be mad not to get him considering he wants to play for us.

Brisbane have been fairly open about the fact they are going to try and trade him, as reported in yesterdays Herald Sun.

trade talk

listening to all this wanking about what players were going to get
is boring, we will be lucky to pick up anyone at all, maybe at a pinch stevens, but like the last couple of years the improvemement will have to come within, without the big names.

I heard MM say that he hopes to bring Guy Richards along next year, dose that mean McKee should be looking for a new club, would McKee attract interest from a club apart from the hack scavangers Footscray?

The 2001 picks were the most notable success, Molloy was excellent in his first year, for a short time Steinfort was a crucial player, while Clement, Holland and Wakelin... enough said!
