19 is better than 25 but if we trade it on to North for Greenwood it's probably of no real benefit.

The pick we get for Lumumba could become a factor too. Wether we end up with 19 and/or 23 25 the Roos will want the higher one which is probably fair enuff

You two have no clue. He doesn't go into the draft
He goes to Brissy as a restricted free agent after they
Offer him 900k a yr for 5 yrs. we won't match that
And just like that he's gawn

Wouldn't we then end up with Picks 1 and 2?

Beams wont be coming back, and next year, would get through the Brisbane in the draft, just like Ball got through to us.
Cant think of a club that selected a player who didn't want to play for them since we picked Barry Mitchell against his wishes - it simply doesn't happen any more.
Ross Lyon says hello.
He's not coming back to what? He's still contracted for 2015 so he has to play with us next year if we don't trade him. Then we do the same merry go-around in next years trade period and negotiate with Brisbane again to get him across. Do you think Beams will prefer to skip the trade period and walk straight into the draft? Risk having no control over where he goes? Why do you think uncontracted players still get traded rather than all walking into the draft for nothing.

If we stand our ground this year, we lose nothing. We'll just get an extra year of Beams and another round of negotiations. It's option value for us and the reason we sign contracts. If we start letting players forcing us to accept unders to be traded to other clubs whilst still under contract, what is the point of signing up players in the first place? Just put everyone on a one year contract because contracted or not we'll receive unders. At least with one year contracts we'll never pay anyone more than they're worth if their performance declines.

We won't finish 18th in 2015.

Yeah, that'll go well!! A player who clearly doesn't want to be there. He wont be at Collingwood next season. Its over. A deal will get done.

Would we, more than likely, get a compensation first round pick for Beams if he left at the end of next season?

Sorry Im not an expert in this area

A deal can certainly get done but it won't be us that cave (at least I hope the club have the guts not to).

And I see no problem with keeping him here for a year even if he isn't entirely happy. Do you think Beam's played all year then got to the end of the season and suddenly realised he hates Collingwood? If he hates the club that much, it must have been brewing for a while (maybe even when Heath got traded last year if rumours are to be believed) in which case he's already played this season without wanting to be here. I thought he had a pretty good season don't you? No noticeable declines in performance, 3rd in the BnF. If he stays another year we'll get the same output from him. He's a professional and loves playing footy. Plenty of players play great football despite not being at their desired club.

Fact 2. The lions have blinked and now offered us pick 5 plus 25, enabling us to pass this to the Roos to secure their equal 2nd best player, who averaged 25 disposals this season and is a tackling machine.

Fact 3. This enables us to get what we initially asked for.

Fact 4. I'm pretty happy with this outcome.
Are we not allowed to reach for more ? Greenwood wants to come to the Pies anyway. A separate deal can be done there (Geoff Walsh acknowledged as this today). We could possibly use Pick 29.

We asked for what Dayne is worth and this was in isolation from Greenwood.
Has anyone considered the significant price that Brisbane pays if they do not get this deal done ? When was the last time a certified A grader declared his intention to get there ? Do you not think there will be hell to pay if they don't get this done. In the words of Kramer "It's all about Hand Jerry" and for a little while longer we hold the Hand.
I'm guessing Fev doesn't count.

You probably shouldn't say "you have no clue" & then get your facts wrong.
Beams is not a RFA next year. It's another year after that.

1. Stop crapping on about free agency when you have no clue. Beams will never be a free agent, he will either be traded this year while contracted, next year when off contract (for much less) or walk into the draft.

2. If he walks we get 0. This is Ross Lyon style nonsense rather than a Port Adelaide style stand. PA didn't want to gift a premiership rival an A grader, Brisbane and Collingwood are not in this situation.

3. He WILL go to Brissy if he walks for free. They will have to spend their first rounder either in trade to us, or for him in the draft but no other clubs will take him. They will Luke Ball us and we'll look like idiots.

4. 5 + Greenwood is exactly right, whether Brisbane organize that or we do using their pick, or Melbourne's pick isn't relevant. If you're happy with Player X from Brisbane's best 22, then Norths 3rd best player should be enough.

Stop making this about taking Brisbane for all they're worth, it's about the outcome for us, not them.

Stop thinking you're a recruiter and getting sand in your vagina when people say things you don't like. Nobody here has any say in what happens, the clubs aren't reading Nicks to get trade ideas. FFS.
