1 - Is 32
2 - Is a average shot of goal
3 - Has been mentally fragile the majority of his career
If Cloke really was an "average" shot at goal, he would:
1 - have been an All-Australian two years out of three
2 - boot 70+ year in and year out
3 - be worth every penny we have paid him and
4 - be a required player not for trade at any price.
I used to
dream about Cloke learning to kick goals like an average key forward. You probably did too. But it's never going to happen, and Cloke will go down in history as a spectacularly talented player who never quite made it into the A Grade class because he wouldn't or couldn't address the key weakness in his game.
Tend to agree. To oldies like me, he reminds me of Sam Kekovich who had heaps of talent but refused to do the hard work required to expand on that great talent.
As I have said, I loved Clokey but
his refusal to work hard and better his kicking for goal over the past two seasons (based on facts) has disappointed me no end. Almost a trace of arrogance involved in not doing this.
Not sure about this. I thought I read he'd been taking extra shots at training and trying new techniques. He's tried the old headphones simulating crowd noise. And who knows how much kicking for goal practice the medicos allow him to take. I think he's tried quite hard, it's just that it's not going to happen for him. That's the simple fact. Really, how difficult, physically can it be to slot the easy one's he misses? They are easy shots and they shouldn't take hour upon hour of training to kick them consistently. His problems are all in his head. And unfortunately everything he has tried has failed. Whoever takes him has to understand this. He's not going to get these demons out of his head now in his career.

He's got his mindfulness + mechanics wrong and needs to reprogram his muscle memory. Still not too late to fix, but highly unlikely that it ever be.

Still how long? Really you don't think so?

Even if he was a good kick, he is not within a country mile of Carey, Pavlich and Brereton (never saw Hart play), can't remember Cloke impacting a game like those players mentioned.

At his peak he was a good player, but never a great one.

I'd be happy to look at any of the following in no particular order:
- Mitch Honeychurch
- Bailey Dale
- Lukas Webb
- Nathan Hrovat

IF the dogs lose the GF, as I think they will, we can up the ante then.

The big knock on him this year was no defensive pressure in the forward 50.
How does he think he'll spend less time in the VFL next year than this year?
Doggies forward line could look like having Dickson, Stringer, Crameri, Boyd/Campbell (ruck-forwards) as permanent fixtures. Can't see Cloke fitting in.
Either way the GF goes, I have a feeling that getting Cloke out of Collingwood will actually end up costing us (higher round pick and Cloke for a lower round pick and player).

If it boils down to that! better of strengthening our VFL side !
Travis has more currency than that! The Bulldogs may be fast becoming a side that wont need Cloke's services but you would think other's out there can use a strong marking durable forward!

If the Dogs win the GF then they don't need him and his value decreases dramatically. Mind you I question the value across all levels.

What's gets me is, the Bulldogs are in the Grand final, they seem to think they have a spot for Cloke, we in 12 don't have a spot for him.
Uh huh! Makes perfect sense to someone I'm sure!

They don't have him yet. We still need that fourth rounder!
When they do, lets see how long it takes for him to deflate their side with costly set shot misses or cry to daddy and media when he gets dropped.

Just looking at Trav over the season he seems to be in a place he is deeply unhappy about.
When all the bullshit, excuses and justifications are played through the base line is pretty simple.
Trav simply isn't a shadow of his former self.
The club simply can't afford to carry him in the AFL side and he is on record as saying he doesn't want to play VFL.
This last does it for me, a player sulking because he has been told he needs to get his act together in the twos?
NO Trav a million times NO.

He was never given a chance to prove himself after he was dropped. He was played out of position, until Darcy went down, and in that last game, with everything against him, he did not let us down.

Or maybe we will see just what he can do with a coach who takes the time to understand and motivate him.
You will always achieve more building people up, than tearing them down. Even if you think it's not your job.
