Sounds like a solid plan to me. Get it done, Pies!Cam wrote:I saw a rumour that I want to believe that the contract might be extended to 3 years instead of 2 to facilitate him staying.

But that’s the thing - none of us really know where his head and heart are at though do we…? Either do we know the nature of what the club offered him for certain.Mr Miyagi wrote:I’m not keen on signing a player who’s head and heart are somewhere else though. Either he wants to play for Collingwood or he doesn’t.
I don’t think it can ever be that binary. These are more nuanced decisions than we want them to be. Maybe he “wants to play for the pies” if he’s paid $400k but not if he’s paid $250k. Or oppositely if he “wants” to play for the pies should he shut up and take minimum wage to do so?
Yes - I get we want players who have bought in, but I don’t think it’s ever as simple as in/out and we (joe public) can’t ever really know what’s going through a players head. I don’t think I have seen a single article quoting the player himself about his wants and thoughts.
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...

It does my head in that elite sports is about the only industry that is expected to pay employees based on potential without earning it first. I wish I could ask my employer to pay me 30% more and THEN I'll work harder. I'd be out on my ass quick smart.inxs88 wrote:It's quite pathetictbaker wrote:I too am coming around to the idea of him leaving. I don't want him to leave - I think he will be a star - but it's warning signs now at his first contract negotiation that he is wanting more $$ despite not yet being worthy of it. It is a sign of things to come, where he'll potentially pull the same stunt every renegotiation. Pay me more, or else...Boot wrote:I'm coming around to the fact that Olliver Henry wants to be traded to Geelong.

Only if you threatened to take up a lucrative offer from a rival competitor company first!Monco Matt wrote:It does my head in that elite sports is about the only industry that is expected to pay employees based on potential without earning it first. That usually lubricates negotiations; or lands you in court for breech of intellectual property.
Either way, it's nice to feel important!
