You feel confident in the lad because his dad has always been a humble, honest and grounded bloke, and indeed always looked like a really good dad while the lads and their sister were growing up. I wish my old man had lived long enough to see them play; he'd have loved the boys as he loved their dad.

Should he play ANZAC day, Nick Daicos will go into the match having played 19 matches with 20+ disposals, and is set to break the record as the youngest player (at 20 years & 4 months) ever to win 20+ disposals in 20 consecutive matches.

Damian Barrett on Nick Daicos

Post by Harrysz »

Like most journalists, Damian Barrett cops it from Nicksters from time to time.
This morning he wrote

"IF ...
there's something I just cannot cop

THEN ...
it's the Nick Daicos naysayers and doubters. You know who you are, you're the ones saying he gets the easy kicks and you want to question his effectiveness. People, please wake up. He's just turned 20. He's already better than 90 per cent of players in the entire competition, and before you naturally want to question that percentage, try to name 83 players better than him. On track to win a Brownlow in his second season. We are witnessing greatness.
...............................................................................................
Next time someone wants to accuse him of hating Collingwood bear that in mind.

Exception to rule, still a bona fide flog. However, not as much as Brad Johnson who suggested that Murphy should have been suspended for initiating contact with that gutter sniper Camintini

Kudos to Barrett, he finally gets one correct, spot on.

No one but the anti Collingwood keyboard heroes are talking like this.

Once again the ‘media’ using social media losers as their source of content.

So who are the naysayers? I’ve heard nothing but positives about Nick from opposition supporters. Is he talking about other journo’s?

Agreed, I think its all a media beat up.

He is in the right place to be hated though, champ or spud, if you pull on the black and white you will be hated. They hate us cause they ain't us

In recent times, Kane’ Cornes has been the most vocal in his criticism. David King also tried to be critical of Daicos in his first year when he simply hated the thought of Daicos being a far better player than his pretentious love child, Horne - Francis. King would always downplay Nicks first year because anyone can get a kick at half back, while J H F was in at the coal face. What King failed to realise is that what all well run clubs do, is to ease their gun kids into playing a game against men and set them up for sustained success ( eg McGrath, Walsh, Day, Sheezel ) North completely stuffed J H F development for a year and have now lost him but all of a sudden, King does a back flips and now finds it easier to blame J H F rather his own beloved club. Both King and Cornes have been really pathetic in all this. They spend half their time potting players and then spend the other half saying we don’t do enough for players welfare and mental health. ( and more recently Buckley has called them both out for doing the above )
Originally, Gerard Healy was the first to call out the naysayers ( he didn’t miss them at all ) and Barrett has simply rode on the back of it.
The need to grab a headline in the AFL at any cost has become the circus within the circus in recent years. The footy is still good but the “ journalism “ from some has reached a new low.
