The Eagles were too strong for us across the board. Today is one of those days where you have to stand up and acknowledge that a superior team dominated us, particularly after quarter time. We looked mentally shot after half time and the players had no answers to the Eagles onslaught.
Our starts have been good this year, but it's frustrating that we never seem to build from them after the first break. It's a common trend that has occurred in a number of matches. Watching it on TV, the strategy appears to be to jump the opposition early and then defend in numbers by strangling the opposition's attack but when it doesn't work the floodgates start to open as they did today and against Essendon a few weeks ago.
We were dominated in the middle, and without Pendles and Sidebottom in the team this exacerbated the contrast in talent between the two midfield groups. We never recovered in the middle once the Eagles started taking control in the second quarter.
Grundy was below par today, but watching him he looks physically exhausted as if he's carrying too much of the ruck burden. He's a great player, but he's only human as well.
Cameron was decent and at least he can take a mark. I think the Cox experiment is over and he peaked two years ago. Going forward, I think we need to persist with Cameron and see what he's capable of producing even with his limitations.
A bad day for the club, but hopefully we can recover quickly.

Never change.
WCE very well drilled, hard at the contest.
Pies, well that was inept. I reckon the players only realised Pendles was out after the 1st qtr...Not enough players wanting to put their head over the ball or shoulder into the contest.
Did Pendles spend any time on the bench pr was he in the box? We really lacked leadership.
Cons
Stephenson- if he's not carrying some sort of fatigue related issue impacting his performance, he should be dropped. Only runs one way, has some footy education ahead of him. Playing on reputation only.
Sharenberg won't be in the b&w next year. Lacks aerial ability or the pace to play any sort of rebound role.
Maynard sleeps with the lights on before a WCE game.
Thomas, I wanted him in. Thought he'd really dig in with those top 4 players out, not the case. Never put his shoulder into the contest and for an experienced player didn't lead by example. Game has appeared to have gone past him.
Phillips, a spectator.
C Brown, has a crack but he ain't no Caleb Daniel.
Pros
Not many.
IQ, going to be exactly the type of player we need. We just need the 75 game version of him now.
Usual players tried, Adams, Crisp, Mihocek, Moore. Thought Cameron tried but outgunned by better opposition.
Just a dirty afternoon. Bring the mouthguards to training Monday, need a response from the bottom half of our selected team next week.
Well said Laurie, spot on, one bad loss, and they are out in force, check out some of the other negative threads, total doom and gloom, after one shocker, when we were decimated by injury, and on eagles own pissing ground. Some fans get more joy out of us losing than winning, on here, and thats a fact. Just move onto next week, heads up, and have a red hot go, Port lost badly too, and they are the top side, it was a shocker, but maybe its the wake up call we needed. Time will tell.

They were kicking them from all angles today.
They had a day out, everything went their way, nothing went our way, nothing, Pendles capped off a very disheartening display. Just one of those days maybe the big loss, wake up call, we had to have, maybe. Just move on quickly now, and do far better next week. Hopefully.

14.0 from set shots. We could do with a bit of that.Jezza wrote:We need West Coast's goal kicking coach.

I think the Saints did similar against Port, yesterday. Yeh we sure could use that, just once in a while would be real nice.

with the draw, percentage only matters against Richmond.eddiesmith wrote:Just looking at the ladder, not only did West Coast jump 8-9 spots on the ladder, but we lost 30%. Everything the defence had done in the first 7 rounds completely undone and with no evidence we are capable of thumping anyone, we won’t be getting that % back.

Richmond could be the difference between 8th and 9th and that’s assuming no more draws. What'sinaname wrote:with the draw, percentage only matters against Richmond.eddiesmith wrote:Just looking at the ladder, not only did West Coast jump 8-9 spots on the ladder, but we lost 30%. But I feel even if % doesn’t change your position, it’s a good indicator or teams ability to win well and you need scoring power to win premierships. You’re not winning a grand final trying to keep the opposition to 5 goals.
It's been going on all year and it's rubbish whether it's dry or wet.Fino wrote:Why the constant handballing?
It's bulls**t as they try and create forward line separation if the handballs get through but we all know that the more you touch the ball, the likely you will lose it as all teams are drilled for pressure acts.
And the other reason for this rubbish is we don't - DO NOT - have a beast of a presence in the forward line for front and square opportunities and we end up in the pockets as well.
It's that simple.

Only last week you were telling us how good we were; Kelly the next Carey, the Brown boys Gavin reincarnate, Josh Daicos his Dad etc.90 nice wrote:After 2020 we really need to re build i feel was a good 2018. back to the bs in 2019 and now 2020 nothing going right either.
The kids are going to take 3-4 years.
Would not surprise me the pies miss the 8 this year finish say 11th/12th ala 2013-2017.
Get some perspective. It’s neither as bad this week as it was good last week. How old are you? I don’t want to disparage you but I just need to know if you’re a kid or just a full grown knucklehead?
