I see a young Jack Riewoldt, great hands, excellent lead and a good kick.

Any current liabilities will be sorted over time, that's why he was expected to go top ten in the draft.

Play hard on this one Pies and get a decent pick which may be used to get us to the pointy end.

Forget the rubbish some are stating re: PSD.

Such a shame.

He is an awkward one

Has great hands but doesn’t have great defensive nous or work ethic (not sure which)

But isn’t tall enough to be a key forward, not speedy enough to apply pressure

Just take the end of first round pick and move on, no need to weaken ourselves by not bringing in a good pick

He's Jack Gunston 2.0 in my opinion. Not many players kick that many goals in their first seasons. Oh well, he's gone.

I don’t think the club would be prepared to lose him for nothing to North or WCE though. We can play hard ball to some degree but in the end will give a little to get something back.

[quote="Bucks5"]I like the Mark Williams philosophy. Geelong will be in flag contention for many years and we should not be strengthening them during our window.

They need to pay up or into the PSD he goes (ala Nick Stevens). We are better off getting nothing for him rather than it potentially costing us a flag.[/quote

Does Choco realise they are the oldest team in the comp and now Sellwood is gone, and at end of next season Hawkins, Guthrie, Dangermouse, Dunstan, Issac smit, etc, will all retire, and the arse will fall out of them?? You cannot replace Hawkins for one, and Henry wont either. Hes gone to an old club who is on the decline, even this yrs flag was a fluke, if the yellow maggots had not destroyed us in that Qual Final we lost very closely to them . Stuff Henry, lets bleed these hand bagger bastards dry, stuff em. :o

Can change the thread title now. He officially told the club today that he wants to play for Geelong.

This ^^ (handclap emoji)

All this “don’t strengthen geelong”, “show every one you can’t sucker us”, "send a message and tell him he’s headed for the draft” is all just crap. This is the Essendon school of conduct and you end up with players avoiding the joint and other clubs reluctant to deal with you.

Be pragmatic - like a guarantee Geelong will. Make it happen. Focus on who we are bringing in and who we already have who can improve and not who we are losing.

Henry has kicked 45 goals between the seniors and reserves this year. He was drafted at Pick 17 and exceeded the potential of a 2 year draftee. Bruhn has been the opposite in his first two seasons. Graham Wright would know this and as such should ensure we drive a hard bargain with the Cats.

Also worth noting is that a future pick in currency is deferred gratification and if we go down that path, we should ask for Parfitt and a future first.

I’d rather have 3 first rd draft picks next year than this year.

They should. Set the precedent now. It should have been done with mal Michael.

Nah, Geelong are normally a good club to trade with and trading is all about relationships with certain clubs over a longer term. Its just business, be smart and get the best deal we can. The boy wants to go to Geelong. So be it.

The problem is that all other clubs will know that Henry is unsettled and only wants to play for Geelong, so they may not be keen to trade for him. This potentially leaves Geelong as his only suitor. Hopefully a reasonable deal can be done with the Cats. We may not get his full worth, but we should get a decent draft pick and use it on a young player fully committed to playing for us.

How about a slightly different take on things. What say Henry doesn’t make it too far at the cats in the next few years and decides he wants to come back to the pies and re-emerge under Fly. He’s got the talent but is lazy and doesn’t defend. Injury aside it might not work out. Geelong has traded out or delisted plenty of players over the years.

Given he wants out now, would you be prepared to take Oliver Henry back in a few years time?
