So its official. It doesn't matter how well we manage our list, how good we are at recruiting and how many quality players we get down to the club, we will always find someone to hate on our list.

In our desperation to hate someone, ANYONE, at the club, this year it seems we incredible bright and gifted fans have decided to heap it on Taylor Adams. Yep, a young kid, who comes with huge wraps and is likely to be our starting in and under player for years to come (let's see for example, how he is travelling in two year's time) who I am 100% convinced we are all going to adore for his courage and commitment to the ball.

I hope I'm quoted, in 1-2 years time, Adams will be a bloody GUN for Collingwood. The sad thing is that by then (as I have found with previous predictions on such issues) those who currently hate Adams wont be around to say they were totally bloody wrong...

The vitriol directed at this kid after he played his best game ever, collecting 30 possessions including 21 contested (almost unheard of) has been nothing short of disgusting.

I realise that after losing a game against a lowly side like the bulldogs some fans want to find individuals to blame, but some of the commentary on Adams has been rather pathetic.

Most commentators ranked him in our top 3 players and were full of praise for him, yet many of my fellow nicksters could find nothing but scorn to direct his way. Come on guys, lift your game.

Criticising a player and calling him shit for collecting 30 possessions, including 21 contested, is just plain bloody dumb.

That is not the test mate. no-one is suggesting there is anything wrong with that. Fas has had shockers recently, as has Swannie, as has Luke Ball, as has Keefe for that matter.

The test that a player is hated, TRULY hated, by the knockers on this board, is when every single thread gets redirected to a "Its all Taylor Adams fault". That's the true test of when a player reaches truly hated status.

ironically, the players who have come before him, in recent years, appear to be quite an illustrious crowd. Leon Davis (ironically) Travis Cloke, Daisy Thomas and Tyson Goldsack just to name four premiership heroes.....

I blame Dave The Man for constantly forcing Adams on us all and talking him up on this forum. Has turned posters against the young kid imo. People are scruitanising his game more than others with his experience.

In all seriousness he's a player for the future. His skills need some work but that could be said of quite a few others. I thought he was actually ok on Sunday and I agree with the below quote from the op.

I was very scathing in the early days of Nicks on Stephen Patterson (no left side..or was it right?) and Scott Crow (no balls no ticker).

I concur, and have stuck up for Adams on the other thread (no doubt this one will join it ). The only Pies players I have never taken too, when they played, was tex walker, chris perry, Patterson, guy Richards, wild, and one or two other guys who got many games in the early year of the Malthousian era. Taylor Adams is far and away, better than those types.

As a fan, I don't think it's right to hate on any Collingwood player, no matter how bad they are, or even if they leave for another club. The closest I've come is Heath Shaw last year.

But that's just me, I really don't care if others express themselves differently. For Piesnchess it's ok to hate on players if they're crap. For some, anyone is fair game. Who cares? In the end none of it makes a jot of difference. Any forum needs a diversity of opinion and modes of expression and it's easy for me to skip over any posts I don't like.

The fact is that Adams did some things very poorly on Sunday. He did them more poorly than anyone else on the team. Some will react to that with venom, others will pretend it didn't happen and that he was great, others still will fall somewhere in between. Me? I've got no problem with saying that, despite believing he will be a very good player for us, just at the moment he has some deficiencies to work on and, in my view, is not ready for the responsibility of playing as our number 1 in and under player.

I think his biggest Problem he was Trade for a Pie Fans Favourite

^^Heath Shaw was my least favourite player at the end of 2013. So, that's in Adams' favour for me.

In 31 games, he averaged more than 20 disposals in a midfield that was usually out-gunned for both size and experience.

The one thing that occasionally let Adams down, though, was his disposal.

Speaking at Dreamworld's White Water World on the Gold Coast as part of a Collingwood training camp, Adams said it was an area he'd been working hard on.

"I can find the ball all right, but sometimes I don't use it as well as I'd like," he said.

"I don't think you can ever be too good a kick. It's one of my areas of improvement and I've done a lot of work over the pre-season on that."

It's good that he knows he has to work on it. That may also explain why he's been below his best at senior level. He may be too concerned about his disposal and not relaxed enough.

I've said before: his disposal and decision making aren't issues for me over the longer term. Inside mids don't need super disposal, just adequate, and I have zero doubt that Adams will get there. He has the key attributes for an inside mid in spades: toughness, strength and the ability to win the contested ball. This means he will definitely be a good player for us. The only question is whether he's a starting player this year or next year.
