That’s complete horse manure mate. If you’re referring to Jordy, have you seen him training at the club? He works as hard as anyone. This lazy under-prepared bs is a myth.

^ Mr Miyagi, he averages about 15 home and away games per season. He’s missed three seasons’ worth of games already.

You're not the first to fall for this one. No, in a competition of 18 teams each of 22 players, one player is not responsible for a team's win/loss ratio.

Here, you're saying everyone else can play worse under Buckley and better under McRae, but Grundy can't. In 20/21, the team was excruciating to watch, with almost every player far poorer than what they are under McRae.

It's best to reduce the matter to the one actual problem: the too-high, too-long contract. And let's put the blame for that where it belongs: Eddie had hitched his wagon to Bucks, and Bucks had built his game plan around Grundy. So Eddie bet the house on Grundy.

My concern in regard to this is that people are maligning Grundy and burning bridges before they even know they we can get a deal worth doing.

We already know it has to be a deal with the club of Grundy's choice, greatly limiting what's on offer. And because the contract was inflated to begin with, we are likely to have to pay a good swathe of it. And because the player is coming off two nasty injuries, his value will be lessened still further. So, in the end, we might be unable to get anyone close to as good as Grundy, while paying handsomely for the privilege.

That makes the maligning and off-siding of Grundy not only unsavoury, but also undisciplined and self-defeating.

Would the Hawks really hand over pick 6 tho?

more pressing needs than Grundy, so trade him to ensure:
moore permanently as our CHB (another Roughhead type)
a clearance king

a key forward like Gunston would allow De Goey more midfield time

If we could achieve that, send Grundy on his way
We are certainly in need of a star clearance and contested-ball mid (we get smashed in that area regularly) and a key forward (although I would not call Gunston one), as we are of another Roughead type (months ago, Tony Shaw presciently said that the loss of Roughead this year would hurt us far more than the loss of Grundy, because there are other players at Collingwood who can do anything Grundy can do, but Roughead would lock down a key forward, freeing up Moore and Howe to counterattack from defence).

Presumably, Shaw said that at some during the period in which Collingwood has had the best defence in the AFL. There’s a reason he hasn’t coached for nearly a quarter of a century.

Through injury (and a fair bit of suspension haha). He’s not the only one with the injuries, but our fitness development has been terrific this year.

Of course, that’s complete nonsense because the essence of the comment was that the loss of Roughead would hurt us more. There is no evidence of that. It was just another irrelevant and inaccurate prediction by an out of touch commentator. You’re just focusing on the other aspect as a basis for your trolling.

David King on SEN this morning gave the top 10 best finals players of the last 5 years. No.6 is Grundy.
So we could trade him out for cap space and potential signings.
But then you lose this impact in the big games. Just some food for thought.

1. Dustin Martin (Richmond)
Rating: 20.6

2. Luke Shuey (West Coast)
Rating: 17

3. Lachie Neale (Brisbane)
Rating: 16.9

4. Christian Petracca (Melbourne)
Rating: 16.7

5. Clayton Oliver (Melbourne)
Rating: 16.6

6. Brodie Grundy (Collingwood)
Rating: 16.2

7. Tom Liberatore (Western Bulldogs)
Rating: 15.5

8. Ollie Wines (Port Adelaide)
Rating: 15.1

9. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs)
Rating: 14.6

10. Shane Edwards (Richmond)
Rating: 14.5

Pies4shaw wrote:^ De Goey’s woeful inaccuracy already guarantees him “more midfield time” - whether at Collingwood or at a team that tolerates “matchwinners” going at 45% from scoring shots.
Would you take Petracca then? He's got one of the worst accuracy %'s of any player this year. I see score involvement as the most important stat for a midfielder.

^ The Fox article referenced and linked yesterday in another thread suggested we were happy to trade Thor and meet $300K of his salary at his new club but would definitely trade in McStay on a 5-year $650K per season contract. That's either taking the pi$$ or the Club seriously thinks there's merit in a direct salary-swap of McStay for Grundy (which, frankly, beggars belief). I think it's entirely possible that the Club wants to move Grundy on (although, that would be complete stupidity) but it simply cannot be for salary cap reasons.
