This guy did exactly that.
"A bullied loner" aparently (sounds familiar), fell out with his parents and moved in with his grandparents, where he dropped out of high school and spent most of his time alone playing video games, but no diagnosis or history of mental illness that would have raised alarms at a background check. Bought two AR15's on his 18th Birthday, plus ammo, and stashed them at home so his grandparents didn't know.
Telegraphed on social media that he was going to shoot his grandmother (and did) apparently cos she got into him about dropping out of school.
Then took her car, telegraphed on social media that he was going to shoot up his school, and did.
background checks, licensing and waiting periods wouldn't have stopped this. Restricting availability of semi automatic rifles might have, but he could have done just as much damage with a couple of old 30-30 lever actions or even a bolt action with a decent magazine capacity.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Thanks for the correction. However in either direction, unless they scrupulously check every single vehicle, it is inevitable that a few would be able to be smuggled each day. So over a period of time this would add up to be a significant amount of guns. Don’t know what the answer isstui magpie wrote:Thought I'd circle back to this.Lazza wrote:I stand to be corrected but I think I read somewhere that Americans can go over the border to Mexico and buy whatever gun they want and smuggle it in. So banning guns as such won’t work unless they search each vehicle coming into the States. Therefore a complete solution is nigh on impossible.
According to this article, the Gun trade is one way, from the US to Mexico.

Mexico apparently only has one gun shop in the entire country and it's run by the army.
I wrote earlier about how crossing from Mexico to the USA was literally going through customs. On the flipside, walking over the border from El Paso to Juarez there were zero controls. Nada. Ninguno. Zilch.About 200,000 firearms from America cross Mexico's border every year, according to a February 2021 US government accountability office report, citing the Mexican government.
In 2019, about 68% of firearms seized by law enforcement in Mexico and sent to the ATF for identification were traced back to the US
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

What's not clear is how he got the money. His AR-15, new, costs north of $2,000, plus several hundred for the sight. Social misfit with no job don't have a lazy $4k for two rifles.stui magpie wrote:^

One of the most bewildering parts of this story is the police response:

Massively so. Interesting what's coming out about the Fed's prior knowledge of this and the Buffalo shooter. Couple with strange behaviour of police, questions about how the suspect afforded the guns and things start not adding up.think positive wrote:The poor parents, $$%^%%$ hell it just keeps getting worse, what a shit show by the cops, useless, who ever was in charged should be sacked and charged
A $$%^%%$ hour. Those poor kids
There is potentially something more sinister lurking around.

Call it what you like. 40 police stay outside and tackle and handcuff parents prevent them from going inside. 40 police who refused to storm the school.Pies4shaw wrote:The only thing "more sinister lurking around" this thread is your promulgation of baseless, indefensible conspiracy theories. Take them to 4chan.
The reason given for not storming the school….needing to find a key.
None of this adds up. Conspiracy, negligence, incompetence.,..whatever, there is more to this shooting than just a random kid going evil.
