People are forgetting that GC are reportedly owed a 2nd round selection as part of the Bowes trade. If it isn't pick 25 Geelong currently don't hold another after trading their 2023 2nd yesterday. The thought has been GC were after a future 2nd.

If it is pick 25 then Geelong can only be delaying the trade because they didn't want Collingwood to come knocking for pick 7 as part of any deal for Henry (hasn't worked).

At this stage no media seem to be linking pick 25 with the trade for Bowes.

It was a baffling trade by Geelong in many ways because not only did it cost them a kings ransom in return, they included a future 2nd which could only ever further complicate the trade for Bowes (if GC are indeed after a future 2nd) and Henry because they know we're demanding their future 1st at a minimum. As it stands now the rules stipulate they can't trade their future first to us (this was likely their intention) and have no future 2nd to satisfy GC if that's what they want. If that is what they want they'll now need to source not 1 but 2 future 2nds in order to trade their future 1st to us (if another suitable trade can't be reached).

At this stage this trade only makes sense if they're determined to retain that future first and are putting in roadblocks to achieve that.

Of course we may well not be seeing all the pieces of the puzzle and my best guess would be that pick 25 could end up being part of a larger trade involving Grundy. Given we stated we wanted a pick inside 25 for Grundy I'm surprised no media haven't at least entertained the idea and are instead focusing on pick 25 in a straight swap for Henry.

I hope any missing piece of the puzzle isn't us just accepting pick 25 for Henry.

Minimum is an understatement.
I guess if you add a third column around the salary cap differential then we’re getting more out of this but it still stings to be losing Grundy and Henry for a pick ~18 and 25.

The bottom line is we screwed ourselves when we agreed to Grundy's exorbitant contract. We are now 'forced' to sell him for unders. It's our fault not his.

As for the Henry situation. Shit happens I'm afraid. Reckon we'll end up accepting a shitty deal from the Cats, rather than get nothing for him.

Interesting announcement overnight by the AFL declaring there will be no relaxing of the rules surrounding the trading of future picks ( ie if you trade out your first, you can’t trade out your second, third or fourth. Conversely, if you trade out any or all of your second, third or fourth, you can’t trade out your first )
This has significant implications for clubs like GEELONG, Richmond, Brisbane and Port who are all involved in multiple trades but no longer have the currency they hoped they would be afforded with a rule exemption. In short, the Cats ability to put forward a more favourable trade than pick 25 has just been made a bit more difficult ( although a possible Ratagalea trade to Port could improve the picks on hand for any Henry trade )

That's been quite a revelation in that ruling and I will add, good on the AFL. Trading future picks has been getting out of control.

Considering Geelong have the last pick in the PSD I can’t see us accepting a shitty deal for a kid who has immense talent. That would put Henry in a position where he would either re-sign with us or put himself in the PSD where he knows that the likelihood of him getting to the Cats would be close to zero.
How many 19yo medium forwards in their second season can snap a goal from 40m on the boundary or kick four goals in two quarters in a match winning performance? Players with the talent of Henry are few and far between and I can’t see us giving him away for peanuts to the reigning premier.
The fact that he wants to play with his brother is and should be if no relevance to Collingwood.

If the trade falls on its arse, Henry will resign with Collingwood. 2 years. I guess we can come back next year and try again.

I dont think he'll go into the PSD. It's either traded to Geelong or re-signing with Collingwood for a couple seasons.

I'm hoping to see other deals completed first, before we even entertain this one.

I guess the big one is, can Oli Henry fall in love with Collingwood?
