A good source tells me that Ollie should resign himself to playing for Collingwood next year.

We traded pick 26 and a future 2nd (pick 33) for Aish under similar circumstances.

Aish yes was originally a pick 7 selection but he was also a lightly framed 6ft midfielder who ultimately turned out to be very vanilla.

Henry was taken at pick 17 but it was in unique circumstances thanks to COVID cancelling the U18 season so it's harder to gauge where he ultimately might have went with more exposed form. At least two articles I've read quoting former players rated him inside the best 6 talents available that year.

Ultimately if it wasn't for the situation with COVID and Geelong using picks 13/15 as part of the trade for Cameron I don't think Henry would have lasted to pick 17 and with the Gunston like potential he has displayed he's worth every bit as much in trade as Aish.

Pick 25 simply isn't enough, Collingwood was right to reject it and for Geelong to stand any chance they'll need to move on Ratugolea for Ports second round selection which ironically enough currently stands at 33.

And what of Ratugolea?

He's stated a desire to move to Port and nothing indicates we have any interest either. That's understandable given the additions of McStay and Frampton while Kreuger, Dean and Johnson will be hoping for opportunity. Plenty of you will be cruel and say it's understandable because he's s**t.

Still "if" he could develop in to a lock down key defender and Frampton proved to be a B grade Moore it could open up the opportunity to be flexible with how we utilise Moore. Then there is the option of using Esava in the ruck and I still wonder if the game will ever evolve to the point whereby a team is prepared to play without a genuine ruck option, concede they'll lose the hitout stat but assemble the midfield capable of roving to the opposition ruck and place more value on what the makeshift ruck options can provide across the ground.

As it stands now I support us demanding a 1st round selection and willingness to walk away if pick 25 alone is the only offer.

It's not about what a player is worth, it's about what we can get for him.

It seems pretty clear to me that we'll be getting unders for both Grundy and Henry. Dem's da breaks I guess. Get what we can and move on with a squad of fully committed players.

That is not Geelongs modus operandi. They don’t just accept that “dem’s da breaks” hence why they put a higher trade value on their players than what we do.
We need to clever, but even more so we need to be ruthless and cunning with a big happy smile on our face just as the cats have done for a long time.
They have portrayed themselves like Bambi but on and off the field that have been uncompromising and ruthless.

Cal Twomey just rated Henry at Pick 13 and more likely above, were he in this years draft.

The reason he mentioned Pick 13 is - that was Geelong's first pick in 2020 (Jeremy Cameron) which he said Geelong would have used to draft Henry.

And since, on exposed form, he is a likely Top 10 pick this year.

Henry will stay I reckon, Cats are clearly shisters and tight arses, stuff em.

I suspect we will not do a deal with the Cats, but then Henry will leave us anyway and no other club will select him other than the Cats. We'll know soon enough I guess.

Be an interesting watch. It's not like he doesn't have a contract in front of him. He can stay at the Pies if he wants to. Surely be content with another year and then try again? Not sure if he is the resentful type (didnt hurt Papley, Lobb played ok this year, Dunkley just won a B&F). Would he be 'scared' top go in the draft (not knowing who might pick you) or would they be able to manipulate it so the Cats get him anyway? Would every other club steer clear for 'attitude' reasons? If the cats end up taking him with their pick #25, then wouldn't we rather deal for that than nothing at all??

So many questions...

Would like to hear a manager give advice on what they would say to their client. Probably better the devil you know (stay at the Pies for another year) than take on all the risks of any alternative?

Deal will end up being 25 and 36 to us and Henry and 51 to the Cats, not ideal but we take the hit and vow to never forget.

Edit, oh I see they’ve traded 36 out too, how convenient.

the formula is pretty simple

Collingwood rank the best 25 players in the draft. With pick 25, we are guaranteed to get one of these players.

How many of these 25 do we actually really want though? If we do not think there is much depth in the draft, then pick 25 is not worth getting, and losing Henry.

According to Rendell on trade radio we are now screwed on the Grundy deal cos we’ve committed to other deals already. I think he’s right. All the more reason not to get screwed on Henry. We now have no bargaining power with Melbourne but we hold all the aces with Geelong. I don’t think they’re desperate for him anyway. They’ve already got a bonanza and they just see Henry as a bonus. We need to stick fat. Play Hardball Pies… for once.
