What a pathetic banner by North Melbourne yesterday against Brisbane.

Absolutely no respect shown for a great man in Tom Hafey and the overall structure of the banner in attempting to bag the Lions is poorly executed. Whoever thought up this idea is in need of serious answers of how they thought this banner would be acceptable.

I could see how someone could misread the last two lines as referring to the (quite respectful and really somewhat unnecessary) first line; and that's where some kind of delineation or different font might have helped. But if you look it for more than 10 seconds it becomes obvious what they were trying to say. Nothing more than a bit of unfortunate ambiguity.

Anyway, the easily offendable will get offended as usual; for me, it just warms my heart to see an organic fan-produced banner still in operation. If the tabloids manage to whip up a bit of manufactured outrage about this, it might just spell the end of fan-made banner-making altogether. Worth keeping in mind when spreading this stuff around.

Valid points David!

But the way the RIP Tom Hafey message is plonked into the banner like it's no big deal comes across as disrespectful and heartless and the way they say as 'long as North wins no one really cares' which is directed toward Brisbane, but it also appears to be directed toward Tom Hafey as well which wasn't their intention, which can be established obviously.

If the North Melbourne cheersquad wanted to pay tribute to Tom they should have incorporated the message about him on the other side of the banner unless the other side of the banner was made up for the purpose of sponsorship slogans and promotions.

I'm all for cheersquads in having control of the banners, so it's a pity the same can't be said for Collingwood in this regard though. The North CS members just need to show a little more class the next time they're doing making their banner.
