I can see the logic of leaving Sidebottom in with DeGoey and Mitchell out. However this coming game will be a big test for him. So far this season he seems to be struggling compared to most of our older players. If that continues this week, his place in the team should come under consideration.

Woweeeeee!!
Here's a stab at picking the 23 to beat Carlton...
b: Howe. Frampton. Maynard
HB: Markov. Moore. Quaynor
C: Josh Daicos. Pendles. Lipinski
HF. McCreery. McInnes. Nick Daicos
F: Elliott Mihocek. Hill
Ruck: Cameron. Crisp
Rover: Sullivan
IC: Cox, Macrae, Sullivan, Hoskin-Elliott...
SUB: Sidebottom
We still have ample top-end talent to beat this mob....
It will need a ferocious and determined effort from the first bounce and our on-ball brigade will need to at least break even with Cripps, Walsh and company.
If we go fast into the forward line, Nick Daicos may wreak havoc.
I am still bullish about a win between 12-25 points- If we get to 4 wins, 3 losses and a draw, we may begin to grow in the confidence needed to make an impression on the 2024 season.

What's your rationale for dropping John Noble?warburton lad wrote:Woweeeeee!!

I'm not upset or anything - just curious. He's been pretty good since he came in I thought.

It's official Sullivan is in...
Sullivan will become the second player this season to debut after his 26th birthday, following Geelong midfielder-forward Shaun Mannagh.

Sidey will stay in, because we have lost years of experience with both JDG and Titch out.
And Sidey is ever the one to play a masterclass game when we desperately need it.
Two powerful midfielders are out, and our midfield looks vulnerable even with both playing.
We will need to replace them with two other mids.
Therefore, Fin and Sully to come in.
I think Fin will be selected in the 22, and Sully will debut as the sub. Other players, like Beau, Bruzza, occasionally Naicos, occasionally Lachie Schulz, will go in to reinforce the midfield, and suppress the attempted midfield bursts of Cripps and his cronies.
It will be essential to have another midfielder as the sub who can come on later in the game to replace any players exhausted by taking on the extra midfield load.
Looking forward to this game.
I am looking forward to seeing many of our guns (Crisp, bruzza, Beau, IQ, Jaicos) really lifting for this occasion.

Here is my (unconventional) side:
It is reported that Carlton has a vulnerable defense.
I'd put Howe up forward for the game. Give Dean a go in our backline.
B: Dean, Frampton, Maynard
HB: Quaynor, Moore, Crisp
C: Jaicos, Pendles, Lipinski
HF: McCreery, Mihocek, Howe
F: Elliott, McInnes, Hill
FOL: Cameron, Naicos , Sullivan
IC: Cox, Macrae, Noble, WHE
SUB: Sidebottom
Out: JDG, Titch, Schultz, Harrison
In: Dean, Sullivan, Macrae, McInnes

I see an Omen in this match, the last Sullivan to play for the Magpies, was the immortal Harry Sullivan, who drove Barrassi nuts in the 1958 GF, helping us to the biggest upset flag in history. I reckon Lochie Sullivan, will drive the Blues nuts, and as back then, we will win an unexpected victory. over a much favoured opponent. ! Lock this baby in. !

Yes, but we know the mental strength and courage of this team. They've shown us in the last few weeks that this has not deserted them.shawthing wrote:With no Mitchell in and under and no JDG I expect Walsh and Cripps to get 70+ possessions between them. We are in big trouble I'm afraid.masoncox wrote:If JDG and Mitchell are out then it is not looking promising.

Would be nice if Sullivan had debuted in an 'easier' game. He is going first up against 2 of the best players in the league.
What a debut game, nowhere to hide, Friday night under the bright lights, against scum, in front of a full house, on the MCG, the Premiers going in as the underdog!.
I don't know how it will all go against the elite, but he can play footy. Turn the table's son, BOG.
Good luck to him.
