From NSW Health twitter:
NSW recorded 1,431 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

One new case was acquired overseas in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 30,618.
Sadly, NSW Health has been notified of the deaths of twelve people who had COVID-19.

A woman in her 30s from south western Sydney died at home on 1 September. Investigations are underway into the source of her infection.
There are currently 979 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 160 people in intensive care, 63 of whom require ventilation.

It is hard to comprehend. Same with Sydney just going up and up despite being in some form of lockdown for months now.

I sort of get Sydney. People up there just ignored the restrictions until Gladys increased them to the point where people couldn't by which time there was already too many daily cases to stop transmission, all they can do is work to contain it from increasing exponentially, and they are.

In Vic, Dan went straight to his one wood, hard and fast stage 4 lockdown. Up until now, he's been able to bank on that it doesn't matter how crap your systems and processes are, if you lock down hard enough for long enough it runs out of people to infect and numbers start to go down. That's not happening.

Only needs a couple of people to do the wrong thing or inadvertently spread when asymptomatic and Delta gets away.

Looking at the lists of exposure sites, it's tolerably clear that people who are permitted to travel, for whatever reason, aren't really moderating their behaviour to limit potential exposures. In short, people who are actually locked down are scarcely likely to be spreading the virus (other than within their household) - but there are plenty of people doing all sorts of jobs who are allowed to travel and are, therefore, not locked down in any relevant sense. The system has always had that flaw. It didn't matter last year because that version of the virus was less contagious. This year, a person who is allowed to travel and goes to the petrol station, the take away, the supermarket, a coffee shop, Bunnings etc etc at various places along the way home lights up a pile of potential transmissions along the way.

I think I posted that I was concerned about the way that many people don't moderate their movements back when the Victorian map of "close contacts" was published (around the time someone travelled to Mildura after watching a few sporting contests in the City). The problem seems to be that unless people are actually prohibited from doing self-evidently stupid things, they will continue to push the boundaries. Common sense just doesn't seem to work - the mere fact that one can go certain places and do certain things doesn't mean that one should, still less that one should do all of them as frequently as possible or, better still, all at one time.

Not my point at all, it was simply that every time Dan attacks another state, it bites Victorians on the ass!!!

Of course Melbourne had to be locked down, but lockdowns don’t work in stopping delta, only suppressing. Victoria is tracking on a very similar trajectory to Sydney so yet again trying to say Victoria is so much better than Sydney ignores the fact we started a lot later.

Locking down on day 2 or day 10 has made zero difference. All the crap about if Sydney followed Dans game plan instead of their own successful one they wouldn’t be in this situation is proving to be false by Victoria’s numbers.

I thought I saw something like 3/4 of transmission occurs before symptoms show. How can they possibly stop that?

It made an extraordinary amount of difference. The 12 July outbreak was reduced to almost nothing, so Victoria is about 4 to 6 weeks behind Sydney, at the moment. That's huge, given that adequate vaccination levels will still take months to achieve.

yep, I must hang out in the wrong crowd.

If it's not people holding engagement parties or Jockeys going to Air B&B's for gangbangs, it's Nadia Bartel inviting the girls around to snort white powder off the Royal Dalton.

Melbourne Lockdowns are apparently the best parties going round.

Yeah, I just saw the Nadia Bartel video.

Another reason not to follow influencers, a lot of them are attention seeking hypocrites.

And people continue to demonstrate how dumb they are.

I'm confused. Is the problem that young people are getting all the shots now or that they've had to wait?

Didn't every country prioritise the oldest and most vulnerable to be first to get the vaccine?

in a nutshell.

People keep taking advantage and pushing every boundary they can. When I last had to go to Footscray to see the hand specialist I so wanted to go to a different shopping centre, but resisted. That whole centre now has level 1 and contacts all around it. Last year hubby could only work one site for our biggest customer, it was mandated, this time he is not restricted except to one site a day. That’s not on him. I actually get where people are coming from with the not fair when footy players are going all around the country, poor old greyhounds are still getting exploited and horse racing is apparently an essential service. That’s damn bullshit.

It ain’t dan or even whatsaface from Sydney, it’s people doing the wrong thing and locking the, up is the only way to save the, from themselves?choices ? You want choices? Get the damn jab! Spend these shitty days close to home so that maybe when the sun comes out to stay we don’t have to.

As for money I’m quite shocked how much the disaster package hands out.its there, apply for it, no I didn’t, don’t need to but I had to look for someone else. No wonder some people don’t want to go back to work!

Funny, not much to do but I don’t think I’ve ever been so tired in my life! For gods sake do the right thing so we can get back to living.
