It's flavour of the moment.
Next week it will be something else.
Papers have to keep the masses morally outraged to maintain readership.
Reason I don't pay for a paper these days.
Eddie and Collingwood are a good target as people either love or hate them.
No one has gone after James Brayshaw, also a club president. Or Damien Barrett & Danny Frawley.

I'd be mighty pissed off! And I'm Holden through and through! Omg that broadcast just pissed me off so bad! Talk about dress the part, what an act she put on. Oh man I called her far worse than a black widow. And Tony Shaw crying? Give me strength! There was no fricken difference! Ugh, man ,ugh, just don't go thereJezza wrote:This country is stuffed! Everyone's lost their last ounce of common sense today! I can't believe the media shitstorm this has caused.
Losing our sponsorship to Holden would be insane considering the trivial nature of this fiasco compared to Essendon who were obtain to retain their sponsors in January despite WADA finding 34 of their past and present players guilty of using performance-enhancing substances.
I would be surprised if Holden withdrew their support.

Yep good old Aussie tall poppy syndromeMugwump wrote:Thanks TP - we really seem to live in a world now where what you say is more important than what you do. It is also the case that you can assert firm links between things that have the most tenuous connection, and be treated seriously just because the issue you have connected to (in this case DV and violence against women generally) is important, not because you have any solid argument or evidence.think positive wrote:Bump bumpPiesnchess wrote:
Spot on, very well said, bravo.
Meanwhile, anyone who actually does something practical in the world - like McGuire - becomes a shape in the sights of the word-snipers.
It is a sign of something very perverse and destructive.

Can I threaten to bash or drown all of the people who think it is a joke...
I will meet you all and perhaps bring your wives and kids...
We can then joke about it face to face

Yeah sure, you can threaten to water bomb me, or try and hold me under in an ice bath! No worries! Actually last mud run we were all doing that, cos the ice was half melted and it was a hot day!Leave it, It's Billy E's wrote:Can I threaten to bash or drown all of the people who think it is a joke...

Context! Venom in his voice! But warmth in Tony's eyes!
Why is the guy who said he would jump in and hold her down not copping the most shit? Oh yeah, right, Collingwood sells more papers, and she HATES Eddie!

1. I had suggested in the public press - more than once - that you be sacked from your job
2. You had just gone down an ice-slide for a good cause
3. You then said that you'd pay to see me go down the ice slide and you'd pay someone to hold me under, clearly as a joke and not as a real "threat".
Then, yes, you can make that "threat". I get that you care about this issue generally, and good on you for that. But context is what defines the meaning, not the wider issue you project onto words outside the context of their use.

Is the real reason that the "media" is up in arms is that the 3 gents weren't actually joking? Like when your boss makes a comment about what you actually do and then professes that they were only joking - but you know they weren't?
CW deals in negativity; she is the AFL media's version of Andrew Bolt - everything is crap but has absolutely no real plan on how to fix anything. This journo has openly campaigned to have all 3 individuals removed from their posts, at one time or another. 5 years ago CQ called for H Shaw to be sacked, now bangs on about what a wonderful role model he is. i have no doubt this would be the opposite if Shaw was still at Collingwood.
But I digress.
The comments made by the 3 bozos weren't in good taste because they did contain some venom - a bit like the mob chasing an outsider. What I don't understand is why can't they all just admit that the comments were not made based on gender, but based on the individual in question. Not having the courage to express their opinions face to face is a bit flimsy.
All 3 involved have served their clubs with distinction, it times when others ran away because it was too hard.

I am greatly saddened that our Club has come to this! A disgraceful failing on field team. Members treated with contempt. No social club like the tribal culture we once enjoyed at Victoria Park. Dwindling crowd attendances. A Muzzled Cheersquad . Stuff this Club . I can't wait for McGuire to go. I'll be celebrating with champagne when it does happen . All proud Pies fans must oppose what's happening to our once great Club.
I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

I agree with you, this country has gone to s$&t, thanks to the PC social justice warriors, I've had enough and I'm looking at my exit strategy. It's been really getting me down seeing what this country has become. It's full of up tight, oversensitive doogooders, who pretend to worry about issues, but actually do nothing but feign outrage.Jezza wrote:This country is stuffed!
