trade:what could you offer for who??
looking as if we are going to finish low what with injuries , out of form players and some maybe just not up to it .
if we finish low puts us in strong possie for pre season draft which can make some clubs trade with you because you can threaten to get their uncontracted ( and wanting out ) players for zilch .
some possible trades could be
didak to port for salopek (victorian kid .. pick 6 in draft who may want to come home)
clokes to richmond (thus they also get travis) for highest draft pick they have and a player (coughlan out of contract at season end.. brad ottens as he is a bit of a problem child for them ?)
r. lonie to hawthorn to play with his brother for a swapped player or good draft pick
woewodin out of contract at end of year and on big money so swap for a 2nd round draft pick from someone
cole to essendon (they were real keen on him in his draft year)
1 or 2 of these to happen with low draft pick and possibly concession pick plus uncontracted player in pre season could be a good injection of talent into the club in a 1 year period
would also delist some players who would get us nothing but who prolly need to go to see if we can fill there spot with someone godd _ kinnear (times up) williams , mckee
no point doing a massive clean out in 1 year cos the replacements would extend out into the very high draft numbers (eg picks 70+) and its hard to snare real talent at this point .
some players might survive another year but would know that they have to do something or its there turn next (obree . r. shaw . mcgough(another year to learn how to kick and run) davis(consistency) )
fire away everyone . look forward to your thoughts and possible senarios

Though i like your cloke(s) idea, richmond are not that stupid. Ottens however would be an AWESOME get if it's possible. Definitely keep lonie unless we get a quality player for him. Cole can definitely go, but didak i'm still not sure would be a good move. He has a lot more to give then what is currently being shown and i think needs a role in the midfield.
IF he doesn't produce something there, then yep trading time.

The problem we face in this hyperthetical arguement is that teams that rest towards the bottom of the ladder rarely get the value they seek when trading footballers.
Regardless of how lovely your theory that trading the Clokes to Richmond for a possible player and draft pick is, its not going to happen. Wothout demeaning C1 or C2, neither of them will offer Richmond anything that Coughlan would, and Ottens, well, inconsistency is his curse.
Lonie I'd say is an option to be traded, not that I'd like to see him be put up, but I wouldn't like to see any of them put up. They are half a chance to get something decent for Ryan now, but Hawthorn rarely play his brother so no point trading him to the Hawks.
Cole could be looked at as a trade, but his value isn't significantly high enough to generate anything.
In order to get quality, you have to trade quality and trading for draft picks is flirting with danger as you have to have enough players on your list to field a team that will be competitive. I really don't know who, outside of Clement, Johnson, Rocca and Tarrant any other team would have a significant interest in. Buckley, Burns, Licuria all disregarded as trading them would destroy the soul of the Club.

Who would want Williams and McKee? McKee is unfortunate to have had AFL Ruck rule changes end his career and Williams...Dunno what excuse I have for him but no team in their right mind would take him. There is no Footscray to send our 04 Josh Mahoney's to!spanky wrote:at the very least shaws, chokes, kinnear, williams, mckee and davidson need to go. its a bloody disgrace to see collingwood hold on to so many hacks time to be harsh and get the club in business. personally i wouldnt be upset if malthouse pisses off as well
Tradition? Pfft you call merging with Fitzroy and cheatin to 3 flags Tradition? Winning 4 flags in a row is history, which makes tradition!

Why get rid of Davidson? He hasn't played enough to be considered a hack. He played half a game, looked alright and got injured. But I agree with Kinnear and probably Williams. Though Williams could pick up in the 2nd half of the year. I don't know if McKee will last.spanky wrote:at the very least shaws, chokes, kinnear, williams, mckee and davidson need to go. its a bloody disgrace to see collingwood hold on to so many hacks time to be harsh and get the club in business. personally i wouldnt be upset if malthouse pisses off as well

I can't understand why Davidson? I thought he looked really good until he did his knee and showed that he can certainly be a good footballer. I do believe he should be atleast given one more year to show what he can do. To dump him at seasons end would be kicking a bloke when he is down.spanky wrote:at the very least shaws, chokes, kinnear, williams, mckee and davidson need to go. its a bloody disgrace to see collingwood hold on to so many hacks time to be harsh and get the club in business. personally i wouldnt be upset if malthouse pisses off as well

Why get rid of McKee when he could be giving some hints and advice to Richards and Fraser? Sure give him a major pay cut but keep him around the club for experience and all the bonuses it brings.

You've got to give to get. This means the likes of Didak,Cole,Clokes all of which i think should stay.
You dont win premierships with quick fixes. I belive toughing it our with our young players and getting talented palyers with sub #8 picks is the way to go.
People say our lack of depth is our fault which is true but in a few years when our young players are mid 20's we will have no problem with depth.
Sure we do need to make some big changes but dont go crazy and try and trade like crazy expecting the world when you give nothing.
Delist the likes of R.Shaw,McKee(Ruck Rules),Williams. But dont go to far or it will be our undoing.

I think williams deserves one more try... in our state ANYONE with basic kicking skills would be an improvement. I think he will be brought in this week for his last extended run. If he fails, he should and probably will be traded/delisted.
