With Rusling injuried long term does this mean we can elevate a rookie listed player? Perhaps Brent Macaffer because he seems to be a similar type to Rusling.....

Who are our rookies again? Macaffer, Wellingham, Dyas, and...?

As someone suggested in another thread, at least give them a couple of weeks to play their best at Williamstown, no point elevating one player and then watch another rookie tear it up at seconds level.

Having said that, if we had to elevate one player now, I'd say Wellingham. He came so close to getting into the side last year, and leaving his misdemeanour aside, I think he should be the frontrunner at the moment. But give it time.

...And Casey-Leigh.

Wellingham has to be promoted, surely? That's two players injured for the year basically, why not just promote the kid? We all know he's class. That is unless he's not ready to go... not really sure.

well we have presti, dick and rusling all out long term now, so you would think we could promote 3 rookies.

Doubt Dyas is ready quite yet....but Macaffer and Wellingham must be close.

Macaffer was a real standout at training, he used the ball really well

Mate.Take a Bow.
Sometimes you come across a posting as this one and you know pretty much straight away this person knows his football.
Macaffer is a great young footballer and a very decent warm and friendly human being..Let me tell you something you'll never see headlines about this bloke pissing on police stations.

A well built footballer with pace and will most probably take mark of the year one day..His only fault is he is the most unslfish footballer in town..Always looking to pass the ball in the foward fifty instead of having a shot himself.
Macaffer's time will come..All the kid has to do is get out there and kick goals..His junior football days saw him as a prolific goal scorer..Kicking some 70 Goals in 5 or 6 games..I stand to be corrected on that exact figure as im in excitement mode.
The kid can play he deserves a shot..and it couldn't happen to a more nicer person.
Go Macca you beauty!!!!!!!!

They'll get SFA playing time at Williamstown.

I bet you're feeling pretty foolish now, eh!

My understanding is that once a player is put on the Longterm Injury List, they must remain there (and not play obviously) for a minimum of 8 weeks.

Therefore as soon as its certain a player will be out for 8, they should be put on it. Dick is the only real certainty at this point, so i hope he is already on it.

I dont think theres any minimum time for a rookie to be on the senior list, so theres no real point promiting until they are likely to be selected the next week (or this is enough doubts over another player that make you want to name the rookie as EMG just in case).

I'd like to see Wellingham promoted, by all reports he was the most deserving last year, so if he backs this up with the VFL side, he should get first crack.

I wouldn't be promoting Macaffer (or Dyas) unless they are actually in better form than Wellingham...i dont believe we need to "replace" Rusling. We already have 2 senior listed players who are queing up to replace Ruz (Reid and Dawes), and they will no doubt be given first crack.

No point elevating a player unless you are going to select them to play.
Just costs you money.
I would think that Wellingham would be the first look with Anthony, Dawes and Reid, along with Bryan, Thoolan and Cox who could all get a look as talls before McAffer

It is more important for Wellingham to play, because simply put this is his last year as a rookie and he is under fire for his pre-season misdemeanour.

He must be given his chance at senior level before we make a decision to promote him or let him go or drop him then recruit him as a rookie again.

I have no doubt he will play this year. As point out by Nath, no point promoting until they are ready to play because it costs money. But when we have a spot for Wellingham, he should be promoted before the others.
