Collingwood 10.13.73

Head to Head:
Played: 4
Collingwood: 1
Footscray: 3

How They Fared Last Week:
Collingwood - A well earned week off!

Footscray 13.16.94, def
Essendon 10.15.75

The Stakes:
The winner will advance through to the 2016 Grand Final, to face either Casey or Williamstown, at Docklands Stadium on Sunday September 25th. The loser, it goes without saying, is out.

Trivia:
- This will be Collingwood's first appearance in a Preliminary Final since 2009. On that day, the Magpies lost the 1st Preliminary Final to North Ballarat by 61 points, after trailing by just 3 points at half time.

- If Collingwood win, Dale Tapping will overtake the VFL Magpies' only other finals coach (winning and otherwise), Gavin Brown, for wins. Both are currently equal on finals victories, with 2 apiece. Brown coached Collingwood to four finals appearances in 2009 and 2010, while Tapping has led the Maggies into five finals matches since 2013, with this coming Preliminary Final to be his sixth.

MB based on recent games would we prefer to play Essendon ?
Also our form line is very strong would we now be considered flag favourites ?
The weekend will help should see frosty right to go next Sunday

Truth be told, I would rather be facing Geelong. Both Essendon and the Dogs have well and truly had our measure the last couple of times, while we have been Geelong's master for several years now. That being said, we're coming in fresh and rested and history suggests that the week off is usually the deciding factor in these kinds of games.

We do go in with a good form line and our post-bye record is excellent this year (won all 3 games after a week's rest in 2016). You could call us flag favourites, given we knocked off the reigning premiers last week, our perennial bogey team. And you could certainly argue that it's a better sample than Casey's trashing of a depleted Footscray.

Without getting ahead of ourselves, I do think a Casey vs Collingwood Grand Final is the most likely scenario.

Our VFL president Marcus Wagner confirmed the day on From Lulie Street during the week, while the VFL website confirmed the time.

If there's any change, it'll be posted here.

Whats the capacity at the ground?

Any chance of a lock out?

Any reserved areas in the stands?

Capacity is listed at 12,000.

No reserved areas anywhere. It's a first come, first served, first choice system.

I haven't heard of lockouts at VFL games in modern times, but if Essendon win through, there's a sneaky chance this could be the first one in a while...

Never had one myself, but someone whose opinion I trust has. His verdict was that the Burraburger is like Big Foot: spoken about often and in reverence, but with not much substance to it...
