They are truly pathetic.

Collingwood needs to move to put this to bed once and for all. Port should never be allowed to use that jumper in any official capacity at all. Even in the rooms after a game. No exceptions.

Thing is, they broke the AFL rules, and dont give a stuff. I recall when they came in, to the AFL, they wanted nothing to do with that prison bar jumper, they wanted a fresh start, with the teal colours. This is all the crap from that silly ponce Kosh, its his doing, immature moron.

Those lying pricks Port Power.
Going back on the agreement that allowed them into the AFL and using a couple of years near the top of the ladder to be extremely provocative and antagonistic.

Gil should have a quiet word with Koch and let it be known that if they pull this stunt one more time, they will be heavily fined and have premiership points taken off them.

Port Power play in the AFL.
Port Magpies play in the SANFL.

Which part of that does that “Eddie wannabe” not understand?

Eddie going on like a pork chop about this all afternoon on Foxtel (God can't we be rid of this < snip - Really? Let's try not to be gratuitously abusive - Pis4shaw for BBMods> who embarrasses our club at every turn).

Listen carefully:

Port Adelaide Magpies (founded 1870 Premierships 37 SANFL + AFL)

Collingwood Magpies (founded 1892 Premierships 16 VFA+ VFL + AFL)

There's no argument. Both teams deserve the black and white. But I know which club has been more successful and has the brighter future.

No they are black and white with teal thrown in to appease the AFL when they applied for the license. You really don't want this coming to a vote of all the supporters from all the other clubs do you. Collingwood would be trounced. They've agreed not to play in that jumper that's all.

There's no argument if we're playing the SANFL.

But we're not.

If Kochie wants to be a smart arse, he should remember that they'll have to negotiate to wear it again next year, and Collingwood remembers.

Get $@&^#.

The Port Adelaide Magpies played in the SANFL. They ceased to be the Magpies once they joined the AFL and became Port Adelaide Power.

Listen carefully:

Port Adelaide Power (1 AFL Premiership) = Black, White, Teal and Silver

Collingwood Magpies (15 VFL/AFL Premierships) = Black and White

Collingwood is the only club to deserve exclusive rights to the black and white. As per the agreement 25 years ago, Port relinquished that right in return for them joining the AFL. Now they're backtracking and breaching their contractual obligations.

Port wore black and white from 1902-1996. Collingwood has worn black and white from the moment it was founded and this has never changed.

It's got nothing to do with the other clubs.

This is an issue between the AFL, Collingwood and Port.

yeah....there is an argument.... Port Adelaide magpies were not founded in 1870; that was Port Adelaide Cockle divers or pink jumper wearers or who the hell cares.

Port Magpies didnt exist until 1902 and they played in the SANFL not the AFL and still do.

Presumably you recognize all SANFL copper cups as premierships? If so Adelaide Crows have a sh!t ton.

Think about it ; SANFL...... South Australian National football League, problem is it isn't a national league, never was and didn't become one.

And if it was going to try and be one would Collingwood be able to join it wearing black and white?

PA wore a pink jumper and called themselves the Cock Divers. Funny how Koch (and I pronounce his name similar to Cockle) never mentions this. He’s a weasel, twists words and plays the victim. Classic playbook, Chinese government is good at that.

Seriously, this needs to be spam tweeted at Koch and PA on Twitter. PA wore magenta, didn’t get the stripes until 1902 when Collingwood already had em.

So we should revive the Brittania jumper?

They were a new club created by the management of the SANFL Port Adelaide team, they arent a historic club.

AFL need to end this farcical behaviour from them.

Too much anger and disrespect going down from both sides of the debate for mine. Not having at crack here as I have been guilty of this in the past as well. Time for a more civil tone I reckon.

This is where I have landed with it this week after hearing Eddie's remarks. I know he aint the pres no more but he still speaks as the club spokesman, even overplaying his hand speaking for the AFL on this one . Koch and co must have rubbed their hands with glee at his response. Should have given them crickets instead and talked about it behind closed doors. Just like I hope the club are doing.

I think we are all so over it. It needs to be sorted out once for all so that both sides can move on happy and with mutual respect for each others identity. At the moment it is brilliant marketing from PA and we are made to look like the fools because we are always reacting to their provocation. How must the other clubs (except Adelaide) love it too. The prospect of us losing or having our identity diluted must be enticing for them.

Let's talk about heritage and a solution that I think both sides would be happy with. I want this both for my own football following journey as well as the fact that beloved members of my family are Port Adelaide supporters. Sick of arguing the toss with them about it as well...

Back in the mid 70s as a young teenager I accompanied my family to a camping holiday in the Flinders Ranges. Amongst our travels I found myself in the lounge of a pub in either Hawker or Quorn, can't quite recall, waiting for dad to get supplies and have a quiet ale. On the wall was the familiar magpie emblem.
You beauty I thought. Fancy Collingwood being up on a pub over here! Then I read the words around the circle. Port Adelaide Football Club. You learn something every day. There's a magpie team over here as well. Well I decided there and then that I barrack for them as well. Took an interest over the following years. Checked scores in the Monday paper. Pleased but envious with their ability to take away the flag often.

Collingwood must have had the same view. Unofficially we were brother clubs. We actively recruited their players including Mark Williams, Greg Phillips and Russel Johnson. Who could forget Choco's effort in the 81 grand final playing a leading hand setting up a four goal lead going into the last that alas we weren't good enough to hold on to. Then we recruited their coach John Cahill. That ended in tears after a couple of years and the relationship between the clubs cooled in the years that followed.

Then 1990 rolls around and news breaks of PA's intention to join the AFL. From the get go Lou Richards led the charge saying there is only one team that wears black and white in the AFL and that team is Collingwood. He spoke for all of us saying PA were welcome to join but with another jumper and set of colours. With hand on heart PA end up joining on these terms a few years later with signed documents to seal the deal.

Slowly but surely they have worked away to renege on the deal to this day.
On the surface their argument about wearing the jumpers after the game on Saturday night is fair. Respecting the heritage and the players that have worn the jumper in the SANFL. But it's all about the "prison bars" black and white heritage. What about the other versions of their jumper involving blue and magenta? Just because those players are no longer with us shouldn't they be respected too? Shouldn't the club also be proactively seeking to wear those colours in so called "heritage" or "show down games" as well?

But they don't because let's face it, when they did a few years back in heritage rounds, they looked terrible. Their pb strip looks good. Just like ours it is iconic. So it's not just about the heritage, it's also about the marketing. importantly though it is also a chance to stick it up the crows; "see you dills got in the AFL first but here we are wearing our strip that's been around forever, unlike you"
Also the chance to stick it up as well; "we are the true magpies. more successful, older bla bla bla"

Skids pointed out an important fact in our guernsey history. The only time we didn't wear our jumper was the game where we we lost the toss when playing Swan District (also a prison bar team) in the Tuesday night Escort Cup back in the day. Guess what strip we wore? Black with a white yoke. yep pretty much what PA wear now. It just wasn't the same watching the team. It doesn't look terrible but isn't as good as the stripes. Don't ever go there again pies was the take home from that game. I'd rather you didn't turn up.

So I get that PA really really want their stripes as well.

My proposal is to let them have them.

Richo gave important insights about the "prison bars" on the jumper being inaccurate when it comes to their heritage. The design originally represented a pier or jetty. So let them wear a tricolour strip. Alternating blue black and white. It's a truer representation of their heritage in that it includes the black and white stripes but also the blue from the now distant past and the notion of the water under the pier that their forefathers had in mind. The cherry on top in terms of representing their heritage would be to have the 1870 on the top back of their jumper written in magenta to represent that era as well.

Remember St Kilda going around in the blue black and red tricolour a few years back? Watching the game they looked like the pies. The same would be true of a PA teal, black and white "prison bar". Their away strip could be the negative image of the home strip. I reckon their fans would love it because it would look like Port Adelaide. No clashes with us because we continue to wear our home v their away and vice versa.

As a Collingwood supporter I would live happily with this. Yes another club like Hawthorn and North Melbourne wearing vertical stripes but we all know and respect who we are.

In any event if Port Adelaide took this one to the AFL I don't see that we could have any grounds to reject it.
