Atu and Stephenson
So watching North vs Geelong...North are (as expected) getting flogged.
It is telling in a side that is so poor, Stephenson can't get
A game. Meanwhile Atu in a passage of play was in space and handballs back into a pack.
Look Atu wasn't a high pick and good on him for getting a game. But wow Stephenson has really fallen off a cliff form wise. History might just show pick 26 & 33 to be not a bad return.

Stevo never recovered his great form of 2018, and that gambling stuff stuffed him. Only one club, Norf, wanted him, so what does that tell you ?
Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

he's also playing a different role than he played with us, further up the ground meaning he's getting more disposals and more inside 50's and laying more tackles.
He's hardly setting the world on fire but he's an outside player in a currently poor team.
Atu is at least having a crack. He was always going to take time but he has a go and as Norf come good, I hope they both do too.

How Stevo can swing from high 20's disposals to 15. How he can swing from being influential, to passenger
There are reasons. The trade wasn't understood at the time, but now we have an idea.
And to blame the club for not being able to manage payers like him,.. North can't perform a miracle, either.
Shame, I wanted Naughton, but rapt he was still available at 6, I thought we had won tatts.
In retrospect, he slipped to 6 for a reason… And in balance, it would have been inexcusable to let him slip further.
it was like the bullet had our name on it.

Re: Atu and Stephenson
Not only did the gambling saga stuff him up, it probably derailed our season in 2019 a bit too. Not much has been said publicly, but I can imagine it would have made the locker room a difficult place to be in at times. Not to mention we could have used him actually on the field during those 12-ish games... Shame - but I think in another couple years this aspect of the trade fire sale will seem more and more like the right move.Piesnchess wrote:derkd wrote:So watching North vs Geelong...North are (as expected) getting flogged.

Played four seasons with North for 60 games before being delisted at the end of 2020 (is now playing for the Port Melbourne Colts in Division 1 of the Southern Football League). Wasn't happy about leaving, either: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-20 ... ae1c166960Presti35 wrote:How's Marley Williams going? Can't believe we traded him for pick, was it 105? Anyway, we got Sam Murray to replace him. All good.
